21 Nov 08 - 11:50 AM (#2499381) Subject: RE: Your favourite Gordon Lightfoot song? From: Modern Bard For me it has to be "Ghosts of Cape Horn", though I've always had a fondness for the Edmund Fitzgerald. As for needing someone like that now, I know he released an album recently and I had heard rumors of a 2008 tour. Sounds to me like Mr. Lightfoot isn't done yet. |

21 Nov 08 - 04:44 PM (#2499597) Subject: Lyr Add: SONG FOR A WINTER'S NIGHT (G Lightfoot) From: Lizzie Cornish 1 Who could want for anything more in life......... Song For A Winter's Night "The lamp is burnin' low upon my table top The snow is softly falling The air is still within the silence of my room I hear your voice softly calling If I could only have you near To breathe a sigh or two I would be happy just to hold the hands I love Upon this winter night with you The smoke is rising in the shadows overhead My glass is almost empty I read again between the lines upon each page The words of love you sent me If I could know within my heart That you were lonely too I would be happy just to hold the hands I love Upon this winter night with you The fire is dying now, my lamp is growing dim The shades of night are liftin' The morning light steals across my windowpane Where webs of snow are driftin' If I could only have you near To breathe a sigh or two I would be happy just to hold the hands I love Upon this winter night with you And to be once again with with you" "If I could know within my heart That you were lonely too I would be happy just to hold the hands I love Upon this winter night with you" |

21 Nov 08 - 05:29 PM (#2499623) Subject: RE: Your favourite Gordon Lightfoot song? From: Joe Offer I've always liked "Rainy Day People" because of its upbeat perspective. I know other people have listed it, my all-time favorite is "Edmund Fitzgerald," because it's about MY Great Lakes, where I grew up. I don't know if I saw the ship before its infamous demise, but I imagine I must have seen it among the ships that winter at Jones Island in Milwaukee. I used to spend hours there, looking at the ships. -Joe- |

22 Nov 08 - 10:50 AM (#2500021) Subject: RE: Your favourite Gordon Lightfoot song? From: Ron Davies So many, especially the very early ones. Top favorite is probably "10 Degrees and Getting Colder". A perfect finely etched picture with just a few strokes. You can see the guy by the side of the road and feel it getting colder by Boulder Dam as the sun goes down. Other great Lightfoot songs, most of which have been already mentioned: Early Morning Rain Did She Mention My Name? I played covers of "Carefree Highway", "Cotton Jenny", and "Christian Island". Didn't quite get around to "Pussy Willows, Cattails" this time, but have been doing it lately. Lightfoot seems to be really popular around here the last while. |
