26 Nov 08 - 09:20 PM (#2502558) Subject: RE: BS:Let It Snow Let It Snow Let.... From: Genie Not too likely to hit us here in the Pacific NW west of the Cascade Mountains too soon. Here's my Portland, OR, version of "Let It Snow!" Oh, the weather outside is frightful But the fire is so delightful That I really can't complain. Let it Rain, let it rain, let it rain! Oh, it shows no signs of stopping And I've brought some corn for popping. Hear the drops on the window pane. Let it Rain, let it rain, let it rain! When we finally kiss goodnight How I'll hate to go out and get soaked, But if you'll really hold me tight, All night my fire will stay stoked! Oh, the fire is slowly dying, As we sit here drying, So let's sing one more refrain: Let it Rain, let it rain, let it rain! |

We had drifts arse deep after Sat's storm, but I think the collective anger that ensued heated up the air so much that we are having yet another one of our short, cyclical "Indian Summers". |

From: Uncle_DaveO A couple from Michigan decided when they retired they wanted to get away from those terrible Michigan winters. They went to Texas, and were looking at real estate. The husband asked the real estate salesman, "Are you sure it doesn't snow here?" The salesman replied, "Absolutely!" "Are you SURE?" "Sure. Here--see that kid over there? "Hey kid, have you ever seen snow?" "No, I never seen snow. But I seen it RAIN once!" |

15 Dec 08 - 02:48 PM (#2516083) Subject: RE: BS:Let It Snow Let It Snow Let.... From: Joe Offer It's been pretty cold here in the Sierra Nevada Foothills the last few days. I keep telling people I'm going to move to California, where it's warm and the sun shines all the time. Hey, wait...I'm IN California. Last night, we got the biggest snowfall since I moved here to the Foothills seven years ago - four to six inches, I'd say. People back home in Wisconsin wouldn't think that's much, but it makes for very treacherous driving in our rugged terrain. If I could just get up and down my driveway, it wouldn't be bad - but there's a layer of ice under the snow on the drive. Our trees are covered with thick, heavy snow, and it's beautiful. I'm going to have to prune around the electric and power lines to keep us connected to the outside world. But it sure is beautiful. -Joe in Colfax, California- elevation, 2,300 feet |

15 Dec 08 - 02:58 PM (#2516093) Subject: RE: BS:Let It Snow Let It Snow Let.... From: Genie Well, hell may not have frozen over, but Portland certainly has. Our fair city (aka "Puddletown") is now hobbled by about 3 in. of snow with temperatures in the '20s. (I know that sounds balmy to those of you from Minnesota and the like.) We get our main arteries cleared pretty quickly when there's snow or ice, but the side streets are another matter. Add to that the fact that most Portlanders aren't used to snow the way people in the NE, midwest, and northern US are, so you're kind of taking your life -- or at least your car's fenders -- in your hand when you venture out upon the ice or packed snow. Anyway the folks on Mt. Hood are delighted, because the belated ski season can now start for Oregon this year! Genie Portland, OR - The Willamette Valley |
