Whither the music industry?

I was looking through a rack of cds to buy one in a shop, when I noticed some music industry mogul had come with the concept:-

The Greatest Hits of Daniel O'Donnel played on the Pan Pipes

I thought what a wizard idea! The industry is in safe hands.

What about loadsa other gems begging for industry pulp treatment:

Take That on didgereedoo
Now Thats What I Call Music 1987 on synthasised medieaval harp
Drum n Bass Christmas Carols

Anyone else got other wizard ideas, I'm sure those tragic penniless music moguls could do with new imaginative ways to pollute our ears....

I have a CD of nowt but real frogs croaking, very lovely too.

I guess it's not music industry-- maybe it's the 'lay down your weary tune' label.--there's a topic for a thread...

Well I would say R&B (or is it hiphop? - I don't know the flippin diff and I don't care) revival of old tunes from Broadway Musicals, but it is already being done.

Think I will stick my head in sadn now.

I tell you, I'm going to make a fortune with "Spirit of the Banjo" and "Sacred Mouthorgan". The trick is to get your music into service stations and new-age shops that sell crystals.

Didn't Saturday Night Live do a skit on 50 artists do Stairway to Heaven? Shudder.

What about 'Bombarde Moods'?

Actually it probably wouldn't sound all that different to that crinkle-haired purveyor of cheese Kenny G....

RE The Greatest Hits of Daniel O'Donnel played on the Pan Pipes

Seriously though. Can you construct any viable scenario?

Hey! this sounds like a real winner - something that'll be flying off the shelves!

Oh yes! That fits our label profile all right....what vision! what genius!

You don't need to make them up, they're already out there.

Somebody once gave me 'The Box and Banjo Christmas'. Needless to say it soon went up the tip.

Easy Listening is a winner to a lot of punters. The kind of bland pulp moozak that both functions as an aurally administered Diazepam, and of course doesn't inconveniently compell one to actually *listen* to it, is indeed jolly popular. Give me whale song...

They call it easy listening
So easy on the ear
Oh how easily it flows
Just like diarrhoea!

Not sure of the spelling of that last one!

I intended to browse in HMV (Manchester, Market Street) recently and found that all the Folk, Jazz, Classical etc. had been replaced by Xbox, Wii games etc. So ... the music industry has whithered ...

Thanks for that. I am so depressed now.
