Beware the Fylde Coast Sands on Thursday the 11th of December 2008 in The Steamer Hotel, Fleetwood, Lancashire. Admission £3 - all proceeds going to the RNLI This is the third outing of this show, featuring the collective talents of Ross Campbell, Mikes France and Fairclough, Rachel McCarron, Tony Mason, Alan Middleton and Sean Breadin with libretto, art work and direction by Ron Baxter. First performed in the summer aboard The Jacinta, it also featured as a memorable part of The Fylde Folk Festival incorporating Miss McCarron's Standed - Lament of the Riverdance. Hopefully we'll have a song up on the myspace page before the day's out, but it's not letting me do it just now. I sing on this too - since when was I a gentleman of the chorus? Anyway - do come along on the 11th - it's a great show which just keeps getting better. It also includes a slide-show featuring many Ron Baxter originals. Not to be missed! |

Correction to the above post - this performance is in aid of the Friends of Fleetwood Museum - a group of local people who support the museum in various ways. It is currently being run by volunteers under a Trust which took on the organisation after Lancashire County Council withdrew professional staff and threatened to close the museum in a cost-cutting exercise. The museum was successfully run under this arrangement through 2008 and looks set to continue, with plans afoot for increased access to the Harriet, and other developments being considered. Ross |

The Harriet is the last example of the Fleetwood built 'smack' or sailing trawler. She is in a shed at the back of the museum waiting for money to arrive to restore her. There was an article in 'The Gazette' about 'Beware the Fylde Coast's Sands, on either Mon. or Tues. |
