I just had an idea for a jingle for Microsoft. maybe its rubbish but it sounds the sort of lo-tech thing that occasionally gets a tumble.

Judging by the number of people who, like me, have been having trouble with hotmail, he probably wants to keep a low profile. I've been having problems for a while, but, as our computer seems to be full of gremlins, I thought it was just me. Now I can't access my emails, but in the process of trying to find alternative routes in, I have dicovered that thousands, if not millions have had exactly the same problems. It's all since they re-designed the whole thing. Yet another example of this modern mania for fixing things that ain't broke. Will they never learn?

I might make it up there late night one time if its on.

Well, Al, the Windows song was very good - but I got pulled away to Buster the Line Dancing Dawg. I like the Website design - it draws me to things like "Buster" without being overbearing.

And on the subject of Hotmail (click) the Web-based version is still available to users, and I like it better than the new one that downloads all your spam to your computer.

Joe: I can't get in on tat one. I can sign in, but can't access my emails.Every now and then, I manage to sneak in by some devious route, as I did this morning, but I still couldn't email out. The trouble stems from the previous re-design. There was nothing wrong with the original.

It's such a shame he only gets to do it once a year. I always thought it was bird droppings in the hearth on Christmas day :-)

Oh corks! I **honestly** didn't realise what I'd written there.
See what a nicely brought up ol' girl I am. Rat's, I'll never be able to live that one down. LOL

It was just that he was singing exactly those words as I was typing and they came out instantly and er....er.....Bums!

Sorry Al! :0) x

....and now, back to men who climb in through Windows, in red suits.

Yahoo has been slow lately too. When I complain they say it's my fault.

In fact Mike Waterson had a tune/jingle on "Encarta" for those who remember it and received chunks of the Gates's fortune for a while. Then it slowed down and then stopped. Small chunks but chunks nevertheless. And he may have shared it too.

Joe has asked me to make up a more informative title for this thread.

So how about:-

Shot to Nothing Songwriting

A 'shot to nothing' in snooker is when the player goes for a very difficult shot, one he is unlikely to succeed with - but will, if it comes off, give him victory in the whole match.

And this is what we are talking about.

Being totally speculative. No safety net of public approval, or cult status or state subsidy to mitigate the the highly probable failure - you see an opportunity to make a staement and just go for it.

many of us work in this way, I believe.

For example Johnny Depp is currently making a film in which he is cast as John Dillinger. Now I had written the title track of my album about Dillinger - so last week I got the name of Depp's management and the musical director of the film and wrote to them and sent them my song.

You can either do this or go on meekly writing about the limited and frankly dull subjects that are acceptable to the 'folkerati' - the 1st world war, being a wayfaring singer 'on the road', love, and the the hardships of being an 18th century soldier/miner/sailor/rebel.

Anyway that's what I think.

Well, Al, I fit in as much title as would fit, but I still don't understand. I guess it's just one of those cultural things that I'll have to accept, that weelittledrummer is not completely fathomable....

Reverse the order to " 'Shot-to-nothing songs, contacting important people?"? Make more sense that way?. Or translate "shot-to-nothing" to "long shot songs"!

Regards
p.s. Mind you, I'm more puzzled by the use of "important" here.

Spent a while late last night listening to a bunch of Al's songs. Went to bed. Found myself in what seemed to be, perhaps anyhow, a bar/restaurant room in a vacation lodge. A big guy was singing on state. Directly I picked up on the fact that it was Al. I was just catching him as he came off stage, planning to refer to his mudcat name and go from there, when the alarm went off. : )
