BS: The Weekly Wastebin

06 Dec 08 - 07:50 AM (#2509272)
Subject: BS: The Weekly Wastebin
From: s&r

This is a thread with the intention of providing a way of venting spleen without perpetuating the spleen incducing thread. Its regular use should see provocative threads drop off the bottom

Use it or lose it

Has it never occurred to you that you could just quit reading the thread and shut the fuck up? Would that take a few more IQ points or an an instruction manual or something? We already have enough stupid people/people who act stupidly here, and these threads are attracting more. You piss in your living space enough, and the only people who'll hang out with you are people who like pissy living spaces.

I was going to say that I don't see anything wrong with the basic premise of this thread as long as the anonymity of the person at whom the spleen is vented is maintained, but I've changed my mind. I don't suppose there's any way a spleen recipient could not know (or at least strongly suspect) that he or she is the object of a tirade. Granted, it would be hard to prove such a tirade is a personal attack, but the victim (and others as well in some cases) would know it.

Anyway, you can always send a PM.

Thank you, Stu. It's such a great idea to put a whole new thread up where you-know-who won't see it, and it also will allow him to post to his own thread without a bunch of hopeless drama-addicts and hound pack members to constantly bitch. Heaven knows, poor Mudcat doesn't have enough threads to bitch, whine, piss and moan in these days.

BWL, it's NEVER anonymous.
I suppose though that if Max likes the law of the playground, this is just part of that, so maybe some personal attacks are OK. What do you think?

Nice idea s&r...

new possibilities for wordplay:

Do we need separate multicultural names, like wastebasket, rubbish bin, garbage can, skip and tip, even poubelle? --And then there are the various names for cat litter trays, but I won't go there.

What happens if there's flytipping (that's an English expression)?

Who collects that trash? Will there be any recycling? Will there be electronic monitoring of bin levels? Will we be taxed if there is not enough recycling?

06 Dec 08 - 01:42 PM (#2509378)
Subject: RE: BS: The Weekly Wastebin

The mind boggles with additional possibilities--anyone for songs about trash? Pete Seeger's written one, Oscar the grouch had one...

I suppose like any thread it is what it becomes. When I named it I was perhaps looking for an emotional outlet.

It might be that the post is

"I will not respond.."

or 'Tha Knows'

or *@7788);;<£

or a link to a site with info that has been mentioned elsewhere but is part of a flame war, with no wish to prolong that thread

It's not anti anyone in intent: the title might have been more anonymously chosen

Jeri-I'm really disappointed by your comment about personal attacks. It's time for an end to that.

I really think they have no place here, full stop, period, Punkt.

This is, after all, a wastebin. If it's also a playground, no one likes used chewing gum, other litter and worse in a playground.
I say: keep it clean folks.

"a spleen recipient"

Ugh!

Less stuff about spleens on this thread please - it's already feeling deeply personal... go vent a lung or a kidney or something.

I never thought I'd say this, but I'm really starting to enjoy Jeri's posts...

And who said Mudcat was just for fun and thoughtful uses? It's a garbage dump too!

Thanks for sharing your frustration with us. We would have hated it if you remained silent and just gone on about something else. The 'other thread' will probably just continue, but now there's this whole new one to be frustrated in, with an audience and everything.

Maybe I should start my own thread so I don't prolong this one. I'm not sure what to call it though.

Peregrina, you have to ask yourself if I'm talking about potential personal attacks, or the real ones in the 'other thread', which is almost nothing but. I was sort of being sarcastic. Personal attacks often are ignored here as long as they're against the right people, in which case I may think they're attacks and someone else may think it's just someone getting what they deserve.

Spleen, where have I gone wrong!?

OK, here's a beef.
Next time someone tells you a story about someone, try asking the person in question if it's true.

(There isn't a spleen-inducing thread about drummer's farting pit bull terriers but, rather than wait for one to start, I thought I'd have a preliminary spleen-vent in advance).

Hope that's OK.

Subject: RE: BS: The Weekly Wastebin

Well... I meant spleen produced by farting pit bull terriers is spleen in the sense of a seething hate and bile.

But Spleen, in the sense of an esteemed member of the Mudcat community can only be invoked as a term of love, peace, and all things asociated with the milk of human kindness.

Subject: RE: BS: The Weekly Wastebin
From: Spleen Cringe

Now that's more like it!

I am put in mind of this:

Take a piece of spleen and cut it open with a knife so that the skin remains on the underside. Scrape the meat away from the skin and tendons. If you have some meat sauce already prepared, cook the sauce. Otherwise, mince 1 slice of ham, ½ clove garlic and 1 salted anchovy, rinsed and boned. Sautè in butter alongwith the spleen. When the spleen is cooked chop it finely (if cooked in sauce, chop it together with 1 anchovy), return it to the saucepan and heat through without letting it boil. In the meantime prepare slices of toast, dip them briefly in broth and spread them with the spleen mixture. 45min.

Got any gall bladder recipes? That way we could have our spleen with a lot of gall.

Of course, if we had another sort of bladder, we could give it to Kendall so he could take the piss. Kendall, is Jacqui going to take the coat with her, or has will she just put you in the cellar until she's back?

07 Dec 08 - 01:13 PM (#2509624)
Subject: RE: BS: The Weekly Wastebin

How 'bout a gall bladder cleanse recipe?

1) Drink a blended combo of 1/3 cup cold pressed olive oil, 1/3 cup hot apple juice and 1 Tbls. fresh lemon juice.

2) Go to bed lying on your right side.

3) The next morning, many people notice lumpy stools which is believe to be gall stones that have passed.

Steady on, Stu - I'm more interested in opening up the existential conundrum of whether it's possible to say that anything isn't folk. The outcome of that debate could render all future taxonomologicomorphicalist discussion moot, or even mute.

I think Mudcat time's always been there.

If a classical composer takes a folk tune, regularises the tune and the time signature, and orchestrates it for instruments that it would certainly never have been played on in the wild, is it still folk music?

Okay, it's time to take the gloves off. I've had enough of your pestilential BS, do you hear me? Enough! In my opinion, you are the biggest idiot on this entire forum and should be expelled, thrown out, and excommunicated for all time. I never cease to marvel at the unutterable drivel that pours forth each time your fingers hit the keys on your keyboard. It could make a stone idol weep. I thought I had already seen the worst that humanity can offer...but then YOU came along! You will no doubt be surprised to hear that word of your legendary oafishness has spread far and wide and is spoken of even in distant places like Patagonia and Shangri-La. Your very name has become a synonym for idiocy. Your face can be found in the illustrated dictionary beside the word "stupid". I no longer care whether your feelings might get hurt by my critical remarks posted here, because you are not worth caring about, and you are probably too insensitive to even be reachable in that sense. Were you to die, I suspect that the only person interested would be the local coroner, and the only attendees at your burial would be the gravedigger, the man who drives the hearse, and a crow or raven to squawk petulantly as your wretched remains are placed forever beyond its reach. You, sir, are a moribund jackass, a fogbound jadrool, an unmitigated disaster, a floundering moron, and a contemptible prat. You are utterly beyond hope or redemption.
