Black Swan FC, York-temp. venue change

This is from Roland Wall's emergency edition of the club newsletter:

"Due to unforeseen circumstances, The Black Swan Inn was obliged to close down suddenly last Thursday afternoon. The duration of this closure is not yet known, although it hoped that the pub will be trading again by Christmas.

Mike Silver's concert this Thursday, 11th December, has been moved to The Winning Post on Bishopthorpe Road."

Peregrina, that's really bad news - it is such a nice venue.

Have a great Christmas if I don't see you before,

Deirdre

it is bad news, but there's a hope it might be open again before Christmas.
Merry Christmas to you BBP--and to all!

if awards were given to organisers Roland would have won one ten times over, well done for sorting this one out at such short, and, actually only hours, notice.

Is the Black Swan another victim of the 'five pubs per day closure' thing?
Will it really re-open? That's the question.
It's my humble opinion on this, comments awaited from all 'Catters.
I absolutely take no pleasure in this, another great folk club has to seek an alternative venue.
Will landlords ever face up to the fact that over-priced beer [when you can buy the stuff from supermarkets at at least a third of the price] has a bearing on the pub closures, let's forget the anti-smoking ban, it's over-priced beer that is closing them down.
Opinions? C'mon.

Yes Greycap, I tend to agree, and I think you have a very good point there my friend.
But please let's move that very salient discussion to another thread and keep this one for news on the Black Swan.

Roland is no doubt beavering away as we speak, in his own inimitable fashion, to ensure the club has a future. He does a truly magnificent job.

The latest info I have is that the next two scheduled club nights (11th and 18th) will both be held at the Winning Post. (The club is closed on 25th and Jan 1st of course, so there's a little breathing space...) Keep your eyes on the club website for any further news.

I'm with MoorleyMan on this, and Stallion--Roland does an amazing job all the time, and the rescue venue last week, and good alternative this week, both arranged at such short notice, are really the sign of a fantastic and dedicated organizer. (In fact, I'd say the Black Swan FOlk Club deserves an award sometime...)

Greycapped guest, let's keep this thread focussed on the Black Swan FC not on speculation about the pub.

Tomorrow is Mike Silver, venue: the Winning Post on Bishopthorpe Road. Time: as usual, doors open from 8, music from 8.30...it should be great. Come!
