Are there more words to Mairzy Doats?

Are there any more words to this song, or is this it?

"Mairsey-doats & doesy-doats
And Little Lambs ee-tivey
A-kiddle-eeh-tivey-too,
wouldn't you"

Here's the melody: Mairsey-doats & doesy-doats

Cheers,
Dick

from memory - I refuse to look it up!

Ff the words sound queer
And (something - troubled?) to your ear
A little bit jumbled & jivey

Just say

Mares eat oats
And does eat oats
And little lambs eat ivy.
A kid'll eat ivy, too,
Wouldn't you
A kid'll eat ivy, too,
Wouldn't you

Mairzy Doats

I know a ditty nutty as a fruitcake,
Goofy as a goon and silly as a loon.
Some call it pretty, others call it crazy,
But they all sing this tune:

Mairsy Doats and dozey doats and little lambsey divey,
Kiddlie divey too, wooden shoe.
Mairsy Doats and dozey doats and little lambsey divey,
Kiddley divey too, wooden shoe.
Now if the words sound queer and funny to your ear,
A little bit jumbled and jivey,
Sing "Mares eat oats and does eat oats
And little lambs eat ivy,"
Oh, Mairsy Doats ... .

One other verse goes:

"Cowzey tweet and sowzey tweet and liddle bearzy tunney,
Beezely tunney too, wooden shoe? ..."

Now if the words sound queer and silly to your ear,
A little bit jumbled and funny,
Sing "Cows eat wheat and sows eat wheat and little bears eat honey ... "

Maybe someone else has some of the other verses.

Or one could easily make up more. : )

And how about changing the thread title to "Are there more verses to Mairzy Doats?"
That would surely help keep track of the topic.

Jim Bainbridge sang at least three more verses at the Scottish Mudgather this year. Which is not much help at all as I don't remember them, sorry. But if you ever come across him, you could ask him... :o)

blickie to Melissa's http://www.mudcat.org/thread.cfm?threadid=5185#29615
Burl Ives Sang it on record, websearch on several spellings.
Add Burl Ives to the search and that may help.

And my mother (& generation) used to complain that pop records were unintelligable! When I found this song I had a field day.

Good luck.

How about:

"Hawksie deggs and doggzie deggs and liddle boyzie domelets,
Girlzelley domelet stew, wooden shoe?"

Now if the words sound queer and silly to your ear,
A little bit like mumbles and nonsense,
Sing "Hawks eat eggs and dogs eat eggs
And little boys eat omelets ... "

For background, the "standard lyrics" were popular enough to be recorded in my mother's high school "autograph book" by one of her classmates sometime ca. 1924 - 1927. Apparently most of the kids of that era knew them well enough to have sung them folkishly(?).

A few other bits of "doggerel" that were apparently popular then also were in the book; but I don't know that any of the others were set to tunes.
