Bob Morton of Union Folk: RIP

I received an email from Susie Stockton this morning to tell me that Bob Morton, late of Union Folk in Cheshire has died:

"Mike took a call from Derek Robinson about 9pm, which was to tell me that Bob Morton, guitar player, singer and organiser of the Union Folk, has died. Apparently fell and banged his head.

The funeral is in Hale on Monday - he lived in Crescent Road, so it would probably be in St Peter's, the big red brick job on the bend. Don't know when but I'll ring Derek later and find out. VERY sorry to hear that - he has a wife and family that I've never met.
When they left the Folk Club at the Malt Shovels, I took it over.

Can you tell the Bollin Morris mob and anyone else who might know him from the old days? He worked at Granada, so I expect there'll be a big turn out."

I last saw Bob to speak to when I was playing at a street ceilidh in Hale, it was as though the 20 odd years since we had last met just melted away - we just seemed to carry on conversations from where they left off.

John

Sad news and what a dreadful way to go.

Positive thoughts to his family.

Apparently Bob slipped and fell on the way back from the pub 2/3 days ago, banged head. Bleeding. Went to hospital, checked, sent home. Middle of the night, started retching - back to hospital and died there - assume brain haemorrage [sp?].

Funeral is at 11.30am on Monday at St Pete's in Hale.
