Whoo woo! I assume she's still totally worth going to hear? Anybody seen her lately? And no, I'm not sure when, I will have to look that up, but I'm SO excited! When we got the Rolling Stones I knew we were on the map, but now! What a place to live, Charlottesville, VA!

I haven't seen her in quite a long time-- at the long defunct Valley Forge Music Fair--but it was one of the best shows I've ever seen--as I remember, in that particular year, I saw concerts by Clapton, David Bowie, and her, and she was by far the best, but maybe that's just me--

I last saw her when she had just turned 60, five or six years ago? Anyway, her voice was great, much better than her concerts I attended in her (and my) younger years. Wish I was close enough to get there, I'd go see her in a minute!

Does she do mostly old stuff, that I'd have had on vinyl from Vanguard growing up, or mostly new stuff she's written that, with which I would likely be unfamiliar?

Second question - can anybody come with me? I don't know any other old folkies, just old fogeys, I guess!

ARRGGHH! Don't tempt me. I would love to go, but Chelmford, Essex, UK, is a long way from Charlottesville. I am sure there are one or two catters in the area.

maybe ask one of the moderators to change the title of your thread to include Charlottesville and ask if any one is going.

The last two times I saw her (the one mentioned above and one about 15 years ago) she sang a mix of her old "folk renaissance" numbers as well as some newer material. Of the newer stuff, several were "protest" songs referring to then current happenings.

Wish my wife and I could go with you, Mrrzy, but we're a bit far away for it.

Take note of the great multi-instrumentalist Dirk Powell who plays with her.

Saw her in Canberra a couple of months ago. She was great, and Dirk is an amazing muso.

She is as amazing and amazingly good as ever. Ditto Dirk Powell whose musical skills /diversity is almost scary he is so good. They played here in Jacksonville Oregon last summer and I cannot recall a better concert. Sure would like to know how she and Dirk discovered each other. I didn't even know he was playing until I saw his name on the billboard and wondered, "Wait. Can it be THAT Dirk Powell? The Old time musician extraordinaire?" If you can, don't question - just GO! And just came back from seeing her with the Indigo Girls and Mary Chapin Carpenter.

I may be forgiven for thinking of it as a Joan Baez concert.

Is she still funny and self-effacing?
When I saw her maybe 20 years ago, she started to pontificate about something by saying, "In my humble opinion....."
Then she stopped and said, "Who am I kidding? I've never had a humble opinion in my life!"

Her singing may not have been quite as good as it was when she was 20, but she was still a darn good singer - and she had a delightful, intimate relationship with the audience.

Indigo Girls and Mary Chapin Carpenter are also good, but Joan Baez was absolutely delightful when I saw her.
