Hi folks... must appologize, every year I start the Night before Mudcat Christmas thread... this year, things went pretty south for me, the past few days especially... so I've been up trying to sort things out for a few nights in a row now...not a lot of sleep, and can't come up with any rhymes. But, just a reminder to those who would like to carry on the tradition...

Twas the night before Mudcat Christmas and all through the...

Best to all

Twas the night before Mudcat Christmas and all through the snow
Not a catter was stirring, 'cept spaw as you know
The beens they were bubbling on the stove under his care
To power his slea, to fly everywhere

(come on now cats... let's get going here)

And down in the Southland we merrily say
Thank God that we live here and the snow stays away
We deep fry our turkeys and bake all our yams
and buy beef sticks in bulk when we go clubbing at Sam's

And up in the north we join in the fun
For Alaska's the home of that most famous run
So strike up the band and raise your voice high
If, like me, you saw summat when Santa flew by

Night before christmas and all through the house
not a creature was stiring not even a mouse
The stocking were hung by the window with care
They'd hung there for six week for they need the air

Twas the night before Christmas and as ususuelle
Hardi was singing with choir: Noel.
The church once again was full to the rafters
With stumble-ins we will most likely not see again, after:

The bug only bites them-- when TV's scream "Xmas!!!"--
To kneel, say a prayer, and most surely not greet us.
Parishioners shrug, wish them blessings, and send them back home
Hoping maybe they might feel a bit less alone.

Christmas and New Year and most of all Easter
I'm told is when Parish greets Priest
Or when ourthoughts turn gladly to others
Recalling once again that we are all brothers

Twas the night before Christmas...

And what to our wondering eyes should appear
But our long lost InOBU
With love and good cheer.

His sleepless eyes drooping
His befuddled mind rhymeless
But in he comes swooping
With friendship and kindness.

Larry,
I hope 2009 brings you as much joy as '08 brought you troubles.
Merry Christmas, old friend.
Mary

To focus on surfing and also on tanning...

and out in the NorthWest our shovels we handle
as storm after storm deepens the snow mantle
At least the thermometer is slowly rising
and visions of Southland we're fantasizing

Twas the night before Christmas, I woke with a start,
I heard a strange noise that would quicken the heart,
And out through the window I saw a strange sight,
A piper was playing in the dark of the night.
He'd a hat on his head, it was flat, it was wide,
And sat in a sledge with some sacks by his side.
Oh who could he be - could he be a housebreaker.
Then I saw it was Santa - he was dressed as a Quaker.

hahhahhah Good one, McGrath.

I remember when Larry told me that if it weren't for the Amish, 'plain' Quakers would have to go without clothes.

Twas the night before Christmas and all through the night
Not a possum was stirring, not a flying fox in sight;
The stockings were hung by the chimney with care,
In hopes that St. Mudcatter soon would be there;

The catters were nestled all snug in their beds,
While memories of lamingtons danced in their heads;
And mee-ma in her kaftan, and I with my booze,
Had just settled down for a long summer's snooze,

Christmas looks different from down below
Christmas feels different without any snow
But the Spirit of Christmas is the same everywhere
Whether caftan or fur coat is what you must wear

And voices were heard loud and clear through the night
As 'Catters sang out both merry and bright
No matter north, south , east or west
The chorus was raised and left each one blessed.

on blunder, on dandruff!
on flounder and fritzen!
we've toys to deliver
now quit your bitchin'

his laugh it was jolly
like a pit full of jello
you could tell he was
one cool dude of a fellow

this Kris Kringle guy
was no one to mess with
he could handle that team
and was good with his best whip

so get out the way
and let him pass by
he's got to cover
all of the sky

'Twas the morn AFTER Christmas but lo and behold!
What should I find in my memory to hold
But behind the purring stove, so toasty and warm
Santa, hat askew, bag empty, snoring after the storm

I tried, but as soon as I started this jumped into my mind and refused to let anything else in.

..the chimney was draped in that stocking routine
In hopes that the Fat Man would soon make the scene." sorry, I'll just get me hat.

amid credit crunch worries
and banks on the take
I bunged up the chimney with
last year's christmas cake

no fat man will tell me
to buy and be merry
I'll eat his mince pies
and drink all the sherry

After days of bargan shopping, we limp to our beds
while hopes of New Years hangovers dance in our heads...
Credit crunch worries - good reason to get tight
so Servive the depression (resession - repression - whatever) to all, and to all a good night
love to all
