Obit: RIP Neil Gauntlett (Dec 2008)

I have no details, other than mention of it on Fairport's website, but Neil has passed away. Perhaps most visibly known from his appearance with Joe Brown on the Concert For George a few years back. Seems to be one of those guys who got around, playing with lots of different sorts of people. RIP

This is a real shock, I have only seen Neil with Joe Brown but over the years many times. His playing and great deep voice harmonised well with Joe. Very sad.
(Yet)another man done gone.

Very sad news which also appears on Joe Brown's website.
He was a Bruvver for 20 years - fine guitarist, mandolin player
with a wonderful rich bass voice.

I'll have to play my Concert for George DVD and pay more attention to Joe Brown's bandmates.

It's sad to become aware of a person only upon the occasion of his passing.

We were really shocked to find out about Neil's passing. His parents were our neighbours and Neil even spent some time helping our daughter with playing guitar. He will be sorely missed and we feel privileged to have known him.
Our thoughts are with joe brown and the rest of the brothers but mainly with Reg,Ruth,Sally, Harley and Layla.

Just found out this sad news today. Can't believe it. I was only telling some friends the other day about a chap I knew played 'Here Comes the Sun' with Joe Brown, at the George Harrison RAH tribute.

Neil was a true Gent and very modest about his superb musical skills. I managed to play with him once, a few years ago, when he was supporting an event run in a local pub. He complimented me on my meagre skills and played down his own prowess.

Another good one gone

So very sorry to hear of your very sad loss, we have seen Joe and the Bruvers many times over the years and for myself and wife Suzie we thought Joe and the band were always brilliant each time we saw them but for me personally Neil was my favourite, his style of playing and that wonderful base voice he had, took a picture of him that his mom and dad liked so I sent the pic to them. R.I.P Neil
