The first draft of these pages is at: Will Fly's Surrey listings. Any additions and/or corrections will be gratefully received, either as posts in this thread or at the email address shown on the web pages. There are quite a few other venues to be found on the net, but I'm unable to check the currency, and it seems clear that many have been discontinued. Any accurate info from 'Catters in the area would be appreciated. Thanks. |

Incidentally,you might wish to check listings and members' details at SEFAN's website for more detail of events and organisations in the Surrey area at http://www.sefan.org.uk/Regular_Listings.html Regarding events in the Guildford/Cranleigh/Farnham area then the Electric Voices website in its entirety is probably the one that you need to quote. It gives the impression that - like other clubs - there's a weekly meet which alternates between floor singers and guests. I'm a member of SEFAN and I know that some of the information on their pages is out-of-date. I'm also trying to double-check the venues in various listings for accuracy, and I'm reluctant to include a venue unless I've been able to verify it from (a) its own website or (b) other sources that the info is accurate. The Surrey lists seem particularly fragmented in this regard. The Electric Voices events don't fall into the catgeory of my pages - where I'm trying to list permanent, mainly participative venues, as opposed to concerts. |

(that was one of my formative folk periods, when I was growing up in Surrey). Would be great to talk to anyone who remembers it! I'm guessing there's no folk club there these days? |

It has loads of up to date information about Bristol and Bath - and a much wider area - but it is done by regular e-mail-out rather than on line. The 'Station' was actually the pub next door to the railway station, called I believe the Woburn Park Hotel, now demolished. The club was approx. 1977 to 1979. Before that it was up the road at the Dukes Head from 1974 to '77, and again in about 1983 to '84. There had also been a club there in the sixties. It too is now knocked down. There was also one for a time at the Holly Tree in the early seventies. This pub still exists (but not the club). |

Woburn 1977-79: run by Malcolm & Jill Banks and Alan Harlow & Maggie St. George. Club then moved to Byfleet (Blue Anchor), renamed 'Cuckoo's Nest', run by the Banks, Beecrofts and Alan & Maggie. After A & M left, club moved back to Dukes Head for a while, before moving to Ripley, then finishing. |

Strangely, I also met Jan and Dave at the club but never realised they actually used to run it... do you know what happened to them, and Mick who was the other member of their trio? pm me if you like! I have very happy memories of that club - it opened up to me the world of folk which I fell in love with.... used to cycle there from Chertsey as a teenager. |
