help, can't log in!

Joe, sorry to 'create' a thread, but, 'help' is down. Checked my 'name' & password, comes up O.K. but when I try to send a PM comes back with 'you must be a member'. It's prob. me [I'm only semi-computer literate!]. Help.

You must be logged in as your name doesn't show as 'Guest'

Are you allowed to access your Personal Page (second link at the top left, under "Cafe")? If you can get to that, you should be able to send PM's. But as Mr Happy has already pointed out, your member name is displayed so the Mudserver (or whatever) doesn't think you're a Guest - ????

what has this got to do with music, if it is about music then leave it there if not then put it in the non muisc part.
It's a tech matter, and we made the arbitrary decision to put tech matters up above the line.

It's "tech", and as such belongs above the line as well.

It seems that sometimes your mudcat cookie can "crumble 'round the edges" so that even though it's there (i.e. you're logged in) it doesn't let you do all that it should.

A suggested procedure is to log out (which should delete the corrupt cookie) and then log back in to get a new, clean, crisp-on-all-the-edges cookie.

(Obviously, you can't log out if you're not logged in, so this doesn't solve all cookie problems.)

The other possible cause is that you're using an AOL browser, which sometimes doesn't like the way Mudcat works. If that's the case, switch to Firefox or MS Internet Explorer.
