29 Dec 08 - 08:36 AM (#2526516) Subject: Tom Bliss on BBC Radio 4 From: GUEST,TB Just in case anyone does want to hear this, and missed my post on the Radio thread, I wrote: Not 'Folk' but heard at many a folk club and festival over the past year - a certain Mr Bliss (T) will be reciting his infamous monologue/poem composed entirely of English and Welsh place names on The Home Service (aka Radio 4) on Word of Mouth; Tuesday 30th (4.00 pm) repeated on Jan 5th at 11.00 pm. It starts thus: Middle English (and Welsh) Pie Takely: Appleby, Plumley, Cheriton, Pirton and Cantelop Melonby. Washington, Cutmill and Unstone. Ingoe Bole - and Masham* with Handley. Lickey End. Pickwell Bury: Blewbury, Goosey Bury, Shawbury, Shrewsbury, Blackbourough and Llanberis. Tipton Shellow Bowells and Churn. Watchett Caerphilly. Wendy Mould.. Outwell. Wendy Sea Palling Wormington, or Crawley Bugthorpe, Kilham and Binham. etc until people start throwing things. Tom * Yes, I know. But these were all road signs I saw through my van window on my travels, so I can pronounce them how I jolly-well like! |

30 Dec 08 - 06:45 AM (#2527267) Subject: RE: Tom Bliss, BBC Radio 4 From: Betsy Apart from the monologue Tom , I hope all your hard work in travelling and performing pays off - you deserve it, and as you have said before, if you need a mentor Vin will be there to give some well - founded advice . Wannabees just don't realise how difficult it is. It's not a case of turning up at an event , doing 2 x 45 mins spots and picking up the money. Oh ! how easy THAT would be. Success in the New Year and every year after. Cheers Betsy |
