30 Dec 08 - 08:26 PM (#2527922) Subject: RE: Happy 75th Birthday, Andy Stewart From: stallion There used to be a very good Hammond organ player, Bobby Pagan, who was adamant that "a Scottish Soldier" had been nicked by Andy Stewart from a friend of his. So, who did write Scottish Soldier? And is there any substance to Bobby Pagan's allegations? |
31 Dec 08 - 04:58 AM (#2528103) Subject: RE: Happy 75th Birthday, Andy Stewart From: Jim McLean I'm sure this has been mentioned before, but the lyrics to The Scottish Soldier were written by Iain MacFadyen and Andy Stewart while the melody is trad: The Green Hills of Tyrol or if you like nicked from Rossini's William Tell. (published by Kerr's Music in 1963) |
31 Dec 08 - 08:36 PM (#2528734) Subject: RE: Happy 75th Birthday, Andy Stewart From: Geoff the Duck I never realised he was so young. I grew up with records of Andy Stewart on a dansette type record player at my Grandad Gilday's. Grandad was a fan and used to sing the songs as well as the Al Jolson and stuff such as Pennies From Heaven around Working Men's Clubs. I had assumed Andy Stewart was older than my parents. Quack!
