Lyr Req: Germs My Invisible Dog (Dottie Rambo)

Subject: Looking for kid song lyrics
From: aaron@chusid.com

I'm looking for a song I sang in elementary school. As best as I can tell it's called "Germs" or "Germs, My Invisible Dog". It's about a little invisible dog named, you guessed it, Germs. If anyone knows this song or knows where I could find the lyrics, please mail me at aaron@chusid.com to let me know. Thank you very much.

Aaron, I am looking for the same song for my children. I knew that song as a young child. Please e-mail me if you locate it.

Thank you,

I found snippets of it...

my very best friend is my little shaggy dog chewing on my tennis shoes and running down the hall.

He's kinda like my shadow 'cause he's everywhere I go,

I hide him in my pocket 'cause he's very, very small/Germs, Germs, my invisible dog

It's for sale at several sites on the web.

Lucy,

Here are the words as I remember them from grade school (over 20 years ago). I can't remember the last line of the first verse though, try as I might:

Germs, My Invisible dog

My very best friend is my little shaggy dog,
Chewing on my tennis shoes and running through the hall.
He's kinda like my shadow 'cause he's everywhere I go,
[???]
   Chorus:
I hide him in my pocket 'cause he's very very small,
   Germs, Germs my invisible dog.

He runs like the wind, and he knows some funny tricks
He doesn't like carrots, and spinach makes him sick
He likes cotton candy, and purple lemonade
   Oreo Cookies, and yellow gatorate.

Chorus

We ride our ponies to castles far away,
Chasing phony dinosaurs and dragons on the way.
We often go exploring where the river winds and bends
Acting like Tom Sawyer, and Huckleberry Finn.

Chorus

I take him to church, but nobody ever sees,
the little shaggy puppy dog, sittin' on my knees
He's loves Bible verses and he's learning a new song
But he often falls asleep when the sermon is too long.

   Chorus

I have the piano music and maybe the chords are on it too, have an old book that accompanied a CD I bought for my children years ago. Would have to search for it and scan it for you.
Contact me if you want it.

Anne, it looks like we're maybe missing a line out of the song. If you could post that some time when you find it.

Ask MMario if he'd like the music to make up an Midi file for mudcat.

We used to sing this when I was a kid (over 25 years ago), and now my daughter who is four just started singing it, but she doesn't ever sing but just a few lines and she always mixes them up. I was going to look up the lyrics myself and came across your thread. Thanks!

Here's another verse I learned...

I take him to school in my Superman lunch box
He hides in my locker and chews on my gym socks.
The teacher doesn't know it, but he helps me with my math.
His answers are so funny, that they always make me laugh.

AnneMC, I am hoping that you will read this message. I am trying to locate a copy of the book "Germs My Invisible Dog" for my son's preschool teacher. She loaned it to me with much hesitation last Friday, and said she would have to retire if something ever happened to it. I borrowed it to copy the words of the song, as my 4 year old son LOVES it! Well, I am 99.9% sure I returned it to her the following Monday, as I did not want to be responsible for her retirement! She just told me the children are asking for the book, and she does not have it. Are you interested in selling your copy? If so, I would love to discuss the possibility with you. You may reach me at pncghent@comcast.net Thank you for you time and consideration!

WOW, weren't we some worshipping kids back then?!?
I think kids need these kinds of songs now. Maybe it might keep them babies just a little while longer. :)
God Bless

I learned this song in Bible school, probably at least 20 years ago now. We drove the music teacher crazy because we always requested it at music time. I'm so glad to find all the lyrics so I can sing it to my toddlers at work!

We sang the Bible verse a little differently:

"He likes the Bible verses and he loves a happy song;
But he always falls asleep if the sermon is too long."

I am looking for the cd that we used to have when I was little that included GERMS. I am working with my Sunday school class and they would love all the songs. I can't seem to find a copy. Is there a way to get the copy of it?

it was sung by a large group of children from Ky.

This is great! I just stumbled across this site this evening while I was looking for some of the songs I knew as a kid -- so that I can teach them to my own daughter.

It looks like the "Down by the Creekbank" album (where I learned the "Germs" song) is now available on CD from agapelandmusic.com, along with some other classics.

I sang this song in the 1st grade back in 1979 - it was my favorite song. I actually learned it at public school in Louisiana. I've been singing the first few lines of this song to my children for years. I decided to see if I could google it on the internet so I could sing a few more lines. . . This is great!

I learned it a little bit differently. The last verse was about taking Germs to school, not church.

I take him to school but nobody ever sees
This shaggy little spotted dog a-sittin' on my knees
He's learning to read and he loves our happy songs
But he often falls asleep when the teacher talks too long!

I learned this one in school, so maybe that's why they changed it. Either way, I always wondered...how does the singer know Germs has spots, if he's invisible??? ;-)

I grew up listening to this song on the radio. Our local christian radio station in Hagerstown MD had a Saturday Morning Show called God's Project and GERMS was always requested by kids who sent request for their birthdays. I think they still produce and broadcast the program on Saturday Mornings. Maybe even online now. The station is WCRH 90.5 . The radio station is affiliated with Cedar Ridge Childrens Home and School if you need to Google to find it.
