I have found references to an "Alasdair Roberts" and an "Alaisdair Roberts". Are these the same person? I have read Scottish and Canadian references.

Cheers.

There is a search engine on the web named Google. If you tried that , you would find the following, very quickly:

Yes,thanks - done that, seen that - it tells me about ALASDAIR Roberts - it doesn't answer my question(unless I'm missing something)

Anglo - that doesn't answer the question asked, which was that the questioner has seen references using two different spellings of a name, and wants to know if they are both about the same person (one spelling incorrect), or about two totally different people with a similar name.
Let's face it. There are a lot of people out there, and there could be hundreds of people out there with both spellings of a name (no matter how obscure). Any one of them could be on the web for different or similar reasons.
I don't know the name, but would not just rely on ONE reference found in Wikipedia to prove that some other person with a similar name does NOT exist.

Weasel - perhaps it would be helpful if you gave links to the different referencs using a different spelling. That way, people who know something about "Alasdair Roberts" may be able to identify if the other "Alaisdair Roberts" is the same person or otherwise.
Quack!

If you google "Alaisdair Roberts" you'll find lots of references to Alasdair Roberts where various people have misspelled his name.

The real Alasdair Roberts is a fine songwriter and interpreter of traditional songs and no discerning home should be without a copy of his staggeringly good No Earthly Man album.

Here he is doing Lady and the Blacksmith

His own song Carousing

And finally, Lyke Wake Dirge

You could probably try "Alistair" and any other weird way of spelling his first name, coined by those who couldn't be arsed to check.
I first saw Ali solo a few years ago at a very late-running Crawley Festival opening for Billy Bragg. To have survived (and overcome) all that indifference of heckling prompted me to listen carefully to what he had to offer.
Even more than his brilliant erstwhile band Appendix Out.
I last saw him at the doomed Spitz which, sadly, is no more, with Jackie Oates supporting. What a gig!
And as Mr Spleen says, you cannot continue to live without No Earthly Man.

I had always presumed that this was a spelling mistake and that they were one and the same person, then I heard two songs (don't ask me what - I can't remember) and the accent was quite different, one being sort of American (Canadian?) and the other Scottish. This cast doubt in my mind. (Of course my cloth ears hearing accents that aren't there is yet another possibility)

I was hoping that someone here would know of the top of their head if there were two. It's looking like there's only one!

Cheers

Could it be this? Alasdair's 2001 album of traditional songs, The Crook of my Arm, was issued by a record label called Secretly Canadian...

There are many variations on the spelling of Alasdair; Alaisdair is one although very unusual. But the folk singer is unambiguously Alasdair.

Cheers, Alasdair Roberts
