Let's face it. There are a lot of people out there, and there could be hundreds of people out there with both spellings of a name (no matter how obscure). Any one of them could be on the web for different or similar reasons. I don't know the name, but would not just rely on ONE reference found in Wikipedia to prove that some other person with a similar name does NOT exist. Weasel - perhaps it would be helpful if you gave links to the different referencs using a different spelling. That way, people who know something about "Alasdair Roberts" may be able to identify if the other "Alaisdair Roberts" is the same person or otherwise. Quack! Geoff the Duck. |

The real Alasdair Roberts is a fine songwriter and interpreter of traditional songs and no discerning home should be without a copy of his staggeringly good No Earthly Man album. I first saw Ali solo a few years ago at a very late-running Crawley Festival opening for Billy Bragg. To have survived (and overcome) all that indifference of heckling prompted me to listen carefully to what he had to offer. Even more than his brilliant erstwhile band Appendix Out. I last saw him at the doomed Spitz which, sadly, is no more, with Jackie Oates supporting. What a gig! And as Mr Spleen says, you cannot continue to live without No Earthly Man. |

05 Jan 09 - 06:34 AM (#2531905) Subject: RE: Alasdair Roberts From: Weasel I had always presumed that this was a spelling mistake and that they were one and the same person, then I heard two songs (don't ask me what - I can't remember) and the accent was quite different, one being sort of American (Canadian?) and the other Scottish. This cast doubt in my mind. (Of course my cloth ears hearing accents that aren't there is yet another possibility) I was hoping that someone here would know of the top of their head if there were two.
