SEASONS CHANGE
(John Bartlett)

Harvest in and the fields are bare
Seasons change, Oh the seasons change

The men of the soil they have work to share
As the world turns round and the seasons change

Lines of fire where the corn once stood
Seasons change, Oh the seasons change

Old Reynard watches from the far off wood
As the world turns round and the seasons change

Distant crack of the sportsman's gun
Seasons change, Oh the seasons change

The leaves they fall in the Autumn sun
As the world turns round and the seasons change

The plough share folds our ancient soil
Seasons change, Oh the seasons change

A labour of love, a labour of toil
As the world turns round and the seasons change

Winter sun on a frosty morn
Seasons change, Oh the seasons change

Echoing notes of the huntsman's horn
As the world turns round and the seasons change

Stormy winds over hill and dale
Seasons change, Oh the seasons change

The cattle shelter from blizzard and gale
As the world turns round and the seasons change

The ice has thawed and the streams run free
Seasons change, Oh the seasons change

And Jack awakens the bush and the tree
As the world turns round and the seasons change

Her men are up before the dawn
Seasons change, Oh the seasons change

To set the feed and to plant the corn
As the world turns round and the seasons change

In forest glade and ancient dell
Seasons change, Oh the seasons change

Mysterious Jack is weaving his spell
As the world turns round and the seasons change

The king of the mowers with scythe in hand
Seasons change, Oh the seasons change

He sets the pace on his master's land
As the world turns round and the seasons change

Harvest home for another year
Seasons change, Oh the seasons change

We'll raise a holler both loud and clear
As the world turns round and the seasons change

Harvest moon over weald and down
Seasons change, Oh the seasons change

Her leaves all green now, soon fade to brown
As the world turns round and the seasons change

recorded on Ramskyte's Flickering Light

Seasons Change - There are many examples of songs that list the various activities, customs and practices associated with the changing seasons. This song written by John Bartlett, has a solo line followed by a chorus line in an attmept to replicate the incessant and relentless passage of time from one harvest to the next.

I like the call and response musical pattern

Lovely. I'd like to hear it. This British John Bartlett should not be confused with British Columbia Canadian (and Mudcat member) Jon Bartlett without an "h."

Pete Luscombe and John Bartlett are 2 members of Ramskyte who now sing as a duo called WholeHearted. Their harmonies are heavenly and they sing lots of John & Pete's songs, as well as trad stuff - mainly with great choruses..... To be in a shanty sing with them is pure heaven.
John has produced a book of his songs, some celebrating his beloved Hampshire, called Patterns in the Sand...the great news is that they will be at Broadstairs F.F. all week as usual, dancing with Victory Morris and singing their hearts out as WholeHearted and as part of Hartley Singers.
They have a mySpace.....
I don't have much luck getting blue clicky's to work but hopefully this should be a link to their mySpace

Catch em if you can as they NEVER disappoint!

Lisa you got there before me. However I'll still add my bit. I've got John's book of songs and it also contains a CD which has the first verse and chorus of all the songs so that people can hear how the tunes go. Well worth investing in.
