He lived in a cul-de-sac just off Westbourne Road in the late 60s, and was often in the local late-night shop. I never cared for the music of DD, D, B, M & T, but he himself was a very nice guy. With the advent of the internet, I was delighted to discover that they, and he, still had many dedicated fans. They had about fifteen minutes of fame here in the US, perhaps because it was so much fun to say their name. A couple years back, I made up a mix CD for the car with both Xanadu and Zabadak on it and the kids still love to listen to both songs--their music was full of a sense of fun that has been missing from popular music for a very long time, and even all these years later, I think it retains all the qualities that it originally had-- |

Seemed a nice guy from what I could see and his passing is another reminder of how the years are passing so quickly. RIP |

Pop fans were last night mourning the death of singer Dave Dee, whose band were so popular they were once supported by guitar legend Jimi Hendrix on a tour of Germany. I did think after I posted it that I did the wrong thing naming the link Jimi Hendrix. I just meant to make his name stand out. At least now that you've mentioned it people will know what to expect. I think the top of the bill was either The Walker Brothers or Roy Orbison. DDBM andT were eached dressed in a different colour poncho affair for Xanadu and the sound of the whips cracking was very loud! In later years I got to speak to Dave Dee who was a keen supportewr of Wimbledon F C (Football, not Folk), pre-match in the club bar. |

Their music was pretty clever stuff as well - some leaning quite heavily on music from around the world. RIP DD |
