09 Jan 09 - 08:49 PM (#2536658) Subject: RE: BS: Shoppin' carts,,, Grrrrr.... From: Bee-dubya-ell You often can't test a shopping cart out nowadays because many stores have installed some sort of rough surfaced flooring like natural cobbles or stiff corrugated "welcome mat" stuff in the entranceway where the shopping carts are stored. This rough surface keeps you from evaluating the cart's handling until you've already pushed the thing the fifty feet or so to the beginning of the "real" store. Then, when you finally hit smooth flooring and find the cart wobbles like a 56 Desoto with bad tie rod ends, you have to make a decision: do you want to turn around and walk the extra fifty feet to take it back, get another, and hope for better results, or would you rather just say "Screw it!" and put up with a wobbly cart? |

You bitch, piss, and moan, about damn near everything and its getting worse all the time. Shopping carts? For the love of Christ Bobertz, in what alternative reality were shopping carts any paradigm of excellence? The first cart I remember pushing was at the A&P back home when I was maybe 4 or 5 and it went everywhere it wasn't supposed to go and one wheel kept sticking. Since then I've pushed thousands and thousands of the damn things and they have ranged from "Not So Bad" to "Fuck This Thing!" I've seen bums wheeling them down the street and watched as 50 mph winds blew an entire fleet into the corner of a lot where they slammed into a 944. As the weirdest cart I ever saw, well........That one goes to some redneck jackass racing hobby stock at the local third mile back in the 70's sometime. He'd "fabricated" his own racing seat from a Kroger cart. I know this because the guy actually thanked Kroger for allowing him to steal their cart right on the side of his jalopy. I anxiously awaited the day he'd pile up and wind up wrapped in the mesh. But back to you............You're worrying about all the wrong crap Man. Really.......Like who can possibly get too uptight over a grocery cart? Evidently you....but I think you need to worry about shit that's really important, like, "How long is my dick going to keep functioning" and stuff like that. Get a grip Bobertz..........and preferably on your Johnson! Spaw |

10 Jan 09 - 06:32 AM (#2536923) Subject: RE: BS: Shoppin' carts,,, Grrrrr.... From: John MacKenzie 4 wheel steering doesn't work. Also, if those guys with the little battery trucks didn't push them around in long lines. like they are playing trains, you wouldn't get any flat spots on the wheels either. It needs two, on the thing to keep them right. What bugs me, is the people who sidle up beside you when you're looking at something on the racks, who then reach across in front of you to get something off the shelf. So you move back to let them at it, and you find the dumb arse has their trolley right behind you, so you sustain a painful, trolley scar. Then there's the ones who gossip to their mates and block the aisle,or the families who go round with 2 trolleys and about 6 kids. One of the kids always wants to drive the trolley, and when allowed to, wrecks the shins and ankles of several old age pensioners. Then of course there's the parking lot, geez, don't get me started on them. Why do people use the disabled parking spaces illegally? Because they are a normal size and need to get out of their cars before they can go into the store. Grrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr |

Our local store has a steep hill as a car park. Everything is fine until you come out with a full trolley.......and head off at breakneck speed to the bottom of the car park - whether you are parked in that area or not.Any attempt to slow down results in a sideways slither while shouting "Excuse me! Sorry........!" to passing motorists and other equally unfortunate shoppers with equally unyielding trolleys . I suspect that there is a special camera set up so that staff on their break can have a laugh .I can't wait to try this in icy conditions! |

10 Jan 09 - 12:58 PM (#2537217) Subject: RE: BS: Shoppin' carts,,, Grrrrr.... From: Little Hawk Are you familiar with the Canadian TV comedy show "Trailer Park Boys", Bobert? If you are not, don't walk...RUN to your nearest video rental place and rent the entire first season and watch it. It's frikkin' hilarious. It's about people who are roughly at the same level of life as Shane, more or less, but you really do get to like them as you get to know them. Anyway, one of the three main protagonists is a guy called "Bubbles", and he makes a living by recovering (stealing) and repairing old grocery store shopping carts and selling them back to the local groceries for maybe 10 bucks or something like that. Bubbles lives in one of those little utility storage huts that you use to store your garden tools and stuff in. He drives a go-Kart that is powered by a lawn mower engine, and he wears glasses that are as thick as old Coke bottles, which makes his eyes look ENORMOUS, hence the name "Bubbles". If not for busted up, lousy, poorly functioning shopping carts, Bobert, Bubbles would be totally destitute and would have to live on the street! And his 25 kitties would be starving! So just stop yer whinin' about those crummy shopping carts, cos without them Bubbles would be fucked. ;-) |

It's an open secret that Bobert is a rocket scientist in disguise. Actually, he owns a personal shopping cart with an old Corvette engine. He has stepped the power down using an array of sewing-machine foot pedals linked together in series. But if all you folks are living in areas where nobody can manage a fleet of shopping carts, then I suggest you move to Kansas City. Kansas City is an engineering center, and we know how to do this stuff. I haven't had a shopping cart with a wobbly wheel for several years. When I shop, I park far from the door, and I try to get a cart that's been left out. I figure that the cart gives me a bigger silhouette and reduces the chance of being run down by some idiot who's talking on the cell and listening to the Ipod while driving. |
