I hit an error message also. Gave it a moment to settle down, then tried again, and it went through. (Of course, a new server meeting MOAB for the first time could go into shock or a momentary fugue state!)

Good work, Max!

Max
I notice (on my machine at least) that the Age 3 days option stays on that when you refresh the website. That didn't used to happen.
Is that something you have done to enable catters to see the threads, or is that something new?
Normally, if you change it to 3 days, the next time you refresh, it goes back to 1 day.

I set it temporarily to 3 days because 1 day was empty. I'll change it back tomorrow.

A good idea - there always seem to be some people who haven't picked up on the existence of the three day option, and get floored by the absence of threads when the Cat has been down a couple of days.

Mary Katherine, the Annexe has closed, and there is information about that in threads here.

Both John MacKenzie http://www.failtefolk.net/home/

have offered us the use of their own sites for music discussion, friendly conversation, and information.

Thanks Max, for your unflagging efforts.

Well done indeed Max.

I was surprised by your passing message on Facebook that it was a RAID failure, because I always thought that the point about RAID was its redundancy - but compared to your expertise I still ahve a llot to learn.

I found this yesterday Mudcat traffic which I think is fascinating.

Could a Modelf please delete if it is not supposed to be generally known.

I also tried the Wayback machine to see if I could access cached pages of Mudcat, but it keeps failing due to operation time out.

Thanks Max and best wishes on the new job.

Richard, yes raid is supposed to be fault tollerant. It saved the data which is the primary importance and the hard drive was in great condition. The problem was the actual raid card died. But because of the raid, I was able to pop the drive into another machine and here we are. The challenge was being 200 miles away from it all.

Seems to be running smoothly with the exception of the chat and superseach. Anyone seeing anything wrong or experiencing any oddities? Hows the speed? It's a faster server with more RAM, so it should be faster. Though I am running indexing to try to fix the supersearch, with 2.6 million messages, that takes up some processing power and bandwidth...

India4.2%
Australia3.8%

Greece0.9%
Spain0.7%

If 13.9% comes from other countries than those listed, we really are an international phenomenon and we must have a much higher proportion of lurkers than I had thought.

Just a thought. I am from US but live in UK. I would say more US mudpeople than UK from my readings. By I have more dealings with the UK people.

I'll stop rambling now.

The 'stats', are, I believe, just automatically generated records of 'hits' to the server. While UK members may use the forum more heavily these days, there may well be many US residents accessing the database or just lurking.
Activity can't be judged solely by posts one can read.
