There's great old ragtimey song called Travellin' Man (He'll never give up and he'll never stay put, and I bet he never settles down). I have a version of it on a record by Doc Watson, but I remember hearing a different more bluesy version of it several years ago that I liked a lot but I forgot who it was. Does anyone remember such a recording? Chet W. |

25 Jun 99 - 11:24 AM (#89705) Subject: RE: REQ: Travellin' Man From: Mike Regenstreif There is a version of "Traveling Man" by Phineas Rockmore that was recorded by John and Ruby Lomax in Texas in 1940 that's included on DEEP RIVER OF SONG: BLACK TEXICANS (Rounder). Some of the lyrics, that I've never encountered in any of the revival versions, are certainly questionable by even the least rigid of today's PC standards. MR |
