Let's get serious about PalTalk Session!

Well, maybe not serious, but how about consistent? Max's thread on the bluegrass group he met has inspired me, along with a visit to the cardio and being told to sing more so I can improve my lazy breathing ways, to want to sing more, again, and I would love to do it with you all, like in the Olden Days.*haha!*

Anyway, not knowing what others have, I thought, "I'll upgrade and start a Mudcat room and maybe we can get coordinated. hey, who knows?"

So, I think the one I started is Mudcat Session or Mudcat Live Session. They haven't sent me a confirmation email, yet, and PalTalk has changed so much, I don't know if I want to be the admin, but I did see the room after I told it to create it. I could not, however, see any way to allow audio chat. Does one have to upgrade to the Premium? I thought audio was available in all versions? Shows ya how out of date I am!

So, how about it? I don't care if we use that room or some other one. I'll delete it or do whatever. I'd just like to see us get going again on a consistent basis.

Oh, at the moment it is private, I think. I'll check later tonight!

Or, maybe I didn't. I cannot find any room with Mudcat in the name. The place has changed a lot! OH well.

Kat,

Not long after I came to Mudcat (sometime in 2001-02) I tried to get onto and into Paltalk to participate, but had so many problems that I gave up. Now, I had a pretty puny computer in those days, and dial-up, but I seem to recall that a number of folks were finding it too much trouble.

Is it more functional now?

I don't know, Janie. I haven't been in there in years. I hope someone who has will come in and tell us. Maybe there is a different way. I wonder if google chat would allow us all in one room. I'll have a look. IT sure looks easier, at least.

I'm going to sign on to PalTalk right now and investigate. Back later.

There are still folks on dial up, unfortunately.
So some will not be able to participate

Kat, I would love to figure out away to do this again. I miss singing around the globe.

I'm on there right now, where I hadn't been for about a year. I had to do some looking before I found the room Category List, and clicked on Music, and then Adult. Found only two rooms running, which is a big change from times past. The biggest one had a lot of the same old crowd I used to hang with, and I've got it going right now. I think the name of the room is something like Musicians Live Room, and it has about 22 people aboard, including me.

In order to get in I had to download and install the current version, which took a bunch of time.

Can't say I'm wild about the new format, but once I got down to the music rooms it's just like old times.

I think I'm going back now, and probably sing some.

I don't think that I ever had an easy time of it when I was trying to enjoy the live music rooms at PalTalk. I had difficulties staying connected and being heard by others. There was background noise that affected my particular connections and that warped my music and that of other's when I played or listened.

Some folks sounded like a million bucks. I tried to understand why there was such a huge difference in the sound quality. Did some folks simply have better computer equipment or a better or faster connection to the web? Were some players playing directly into their computers via a sound card or outboard interface box? It seemed that some sounded as though they were playing via a PA system.

I had DSL but that didn't seem to make much difference. No port settings offered any kind of difference and no one connected with the site could offer any answers as to why I was having the difficulties with connectivity, being heard and listening to others. I finally gave up trying because it was simply too bewildering to me. I'm wondering if the site only worked well for those that were paid members. I only used it via the free service they offered.

The software was also a real pain to delete from my system once I decided to give up. I know that they always seemed to be upgrading it but that nothing ever really got better for me as a user. I upgraded my stuff too since then, different box of parts, a slower connection but still DSL and probably most important, I seem to have less time for all of the activities that I used to involve myself with online.

Out of necessity, I'm street performing a lot more these days and when I'm not doing that, it seems like I'm in reproduction mode for my recordings. Each takes a lot more of my time these days. The constant demand for my recordings is a blessing. I sell most of them via my performances on the street.

I'll check out the Paltalk site again and hope for the best but I'll be surprised if it does work out given my past experiences.

yipee--i have spent many enjoyable hours in the live music rooms,
including the one i started there and kept going for years.

i am on dial up for now, so may not be participating til i get
'more modern' here.

good luck and stay away from the carry-okie.

"LIVE" is the operative word here.

i am tryng to figure out how to stream my radio show over paltalk
like i used to do. You (as an admin) can choose to allow video or
not, or choose to have the mic open to others, or just stream music
over the room. i found that if there were cameras available, that
some folks jsut came in the room to play look-see with others, and
that distracted from the audio / music content.

good luck and report back on this thread how it is going!!

the latest version of paltalk is 7.0.6.1 as far as i can tell....

Uncle Dave O, thanks for braving the new waters.:-) Please let us know more as you test it. I would really like to know how to open my room.Still looking into alternatives, too.

DO YOU HAVE A CODE NUMBER FOR THE ROOM?
that used to be all it took..
sometimes the room will not be there until
you DO open it...
then it will show on the list..
did you designate it for "adult" or not?
if so uyou have to go up and click adult..
this does not mean it will be "x" rated,
but the ads might...so beware!

those with an "@" in front of their names
are administrators...i think that this
can change hands if you share the admin
code with someone else..if you want to
have them help you or fill in for you.

good luck...and hope to hear that this
is up and running again...

i will be back on high speed internet
one of these days...

Thanks, Laurel. I do have a code number but I can't find any place to enter it. When I log in, it just is as if I am a regular member with nothing to sign into, other than the member thing. I did designate it private and adult, not the XXX, but the language one. I wanted to try it out before I made it public, etc. I probably won't have much time until the weekend to look into it more.

Thanks, folks. I think we can do this and yes, Laurel, you WILL have high speed, again.:-)
