Also heard this story. Clearly a lot of people were interested because when I tried to go to their website I got a "bandwidth exceeded" error. I hope they can cope with the publicity / demand!

I met Ray Alden at Clifftop in August where he had a stall for the Field Recorders Collective, with some superb CDs for sale. Foaotmad
has reviewed some of these CDs in issues of the British magazine the Old Time News over the last year or so. The website has back issues after they've been out a while. They've also been reviewed for years in the US magazine Old Time Herald.
The Field Recorders Collective are a dedicated non-profit making bunch of people. Excess money from the CD sales after expenses goes to surviving members of the musicians' families.
