26 Jan 09 - 12:47 PM (#2549494) Subject: RE: Folklore: Old saying - New saying From: Azizi These are slang words and not sayings, but some may be interested: Here's a progressive set of African American slang words used and discarded by us in a short amount of time that mean a person is very good at what he [or she] does. He's hot!*>>> He's smokin!* >>> He's dynamite!>>>He's the bomb. There's a connection between those slang words and these words mean that a person has become successful because of how good he does what he does He's blown up.>>>He's livin' large. *These words are still used, but imo, not by people who keep up with the latest slang terms. It's also possible that what I think is still the current slang term is also a part of this dynamite/blown up progression: That's sick. {For example, "That music is sick" meaning it's "off the hook" or "off the chain" [in other words it's very good]. But "That music's lame." means the complete opposite. |
