BS: How to download Earl ?

ok, I know Guests aren't permited to post new threads in BS anymore,
but please mods can you make an exception for this one,
just for the next few days in case a friendly tech savvy mudmate
replys with the info I need ?

I've watched every episode of the first 3 series of "My name is Earl" on Channel 4
and now am annoyed to discover that they have sidelined it
onto one of their feeble 'additional' channls,;
starting the new series 4 a couple of weeks ago
without any noticable promotion and advertising.

So now I find out I've missed the first 3 episodes,
they're not being repeated as far as I can discover,
and there is completely no info available
if and when this new series will ever be shown on proper Channel 4.

So my only option at present is to view the missed episodes
on Channel 4 internet catch-up service

http://www.channel4.com/video/my-name-is-earl/catchup.html

which is a complete pain in the @ss because my internet connection
is usless for watching anything .
I just get frustrating glitchy frozen playback that crashes constantly.

So, can anyone advise me what easy freeware software
I can use to download the A/V files
so I can view them uninterupted at my leisure ?

thanks
[sigh] I suppose we can let it go, but it's hard to understand why it is a problem for you to register as a member. In general, we expect everyone who posts regularly to be registered.

You sorta need to know what format the programs are in. But if YOU can't download them, the easiest way is to ask among people you know who can, and get THEM to save the vids for you.

If you use Firefox, you can use this...maybe....depending on format. I am in the US...I am not allowed to even see them.

It's best to learn HOW to do these things before you get desparate.
I started trying tricks when I had Win98 on slow dial-up.

Many thanks for help Bill.
My default browser is IE, but I keep Firefox as a standby for this kind of dodge..
I've installed the Download Helper add on, and while trying to work out how to use it
I got this sad mesage

"Sorry
Channel4.com currently only supports Windows PCs using Internet Explorer 6 or 7. This is due to restrictions with the rights and technical protection measures required.
However, if you are using Firefox 2+ (on a Windows PC) you can get a plugin from here
[http://port25.technet.com/pages/windows-media-player-firefox-plugin-download.aspx ] which should allow you to watch the programmes on Channel4.com."

oh well.. any other suggestions...........

cheers...

I don't understand it all, but you might see if Miro might help.

thanks Katlaughing, I'll have a look at Miro.

What I'm hoping is that someone here knows of a freeware program
that can 'sniff out' the location of the A/V files thats being streamed
and download them direct.
I'm sure such software used to exist and has been mentioned here before.
[maybe such software has now been rendered useless by tighter rights protection technical controls..
dunno.. hope not ?]

I'm really not up to speed with the 'torrent scene'
so don't consider that as a viable alternative right now.

I just want to watch the 3 episodes that have ben broadcast
without any real consideration for alerting the audience
that the new series started amidst the jumble and confusion
of multi channel programming.

My Name is Earl is an NBC program from here in the U.S.   Folks in the US can go to their website or Hulu and watch these episodes. The series is also available on DVD.   One of my favorite programs.
