My dog likes music too but my cat, archy, (as in 'archy and Mehitabel')twines and winds himself around any player as well as trying to climb into my lap to share the space with my guitar. You suppose it's the rhythmic motion of the hand that attracts them? |

As soon as she saw me with a case and/or a guitar she would head for the hills, not easy when one is an inside cat at the time. And as soon as she heard a noise from the guitar strings she would find somewhere even more inaccessible to hide. The two remaining cats don't mind it at all. Critics.....I scorn them! So far, I haven't found any of my cats taking advantage of my strumming to get some free stroking. However, on many an occasion if I left a guitar case open or gig bag unzipped I soon found it inhabited by a feline. G |

Little paws up on my knees, taking swipes at my strumming hand or at the strings. Come to think of it, she enjoyed walking along the piano keys too, especially when I played. She didn't like me singing in the shower though. Thought I was in distress. She would march up and down outside of the tub mewing and occassionally peek around edge of curtain at me, complaining loudly. If I put my hand outside the curtain she would lightly take it between her teeth and pull. She didn't mind my singing when I was not in the shower. She didn't mind me showering if I didn't sing. It was the combination made her think I was in trouble and needed rescuing. |

Bill the beast (20 pounds and counting) will crawl into my lap while I'm playing the mandolin and shove his hind end right under the edge of the instrument. He seems to like the vibration against his lower back. He doesn't like me to be reading from a tunebook, however; if there's one lying beside me on the arm of the sofa, he'll fling it off. I guess he disapproves of dots -- a folkie snob in fur. Who knew? |

As soon as I plucked a note, he would pick himsef up (even from the deepest sleep) and walk contemptuously out of the room. Can't say that I blame him. Cats apparently have very sensitive hearing. I tried to tell him that I was playing steel strings, not cat gut, but no use. |

Her cat, a considerable hunk well named McCavity would begin to yowl and howl whenever she started playing, and would go from that to clawing her legs, and attempting to attack the box and her arms if she continued. It was funny to watch, but it cut short the music sessions. She'd remove McCavity from the premises, put him on deck, and shut the door, whereapon he'd howl outside and "entertain" those in the neighboring slips. Blessings, Barbara |
