BS: Happy 200th birthday Felix

Felix Mendelssohn has the most significant reprise of any composer with the systematic discovery of 260 unpublished manuscripts including the final version of the Italian symphony and other phenomenal works that he never published. His widow accidently sold the first version. SInce he was relatively wealthy he did not need to publish everything he wrote for his own satisfaction.

Most of the unpublished works were smuggled away to preserve them from the Nazi regeime. Felix's music was posthumously assasinated by Wagner who went on a campaign to discredit Mendelsshon as being an unfortunate example of the limited Jewish intellect who only happened to write a few good tunes but unable to develope them.

The 'lost' manuscripts have been found throughout Europe and as far away as Japan.

Thanks for the info

I'll try to work something of his up to play on the mighty Taylor organ at St Botolph's church, Shepshed, Leics (UK), next Sunday at 8.00.

I "wussed out" of commemorating Buddy Holly's air crash last Sunday. Somehow Rock & Roll doesn't seem to work too well on a church organ!
