Saturday February 21st 2009 Appalachian Magic

At St Hugh's Church Hall in Old Brumby, Scunthorpe UK

Bootleggers Appalachian Dancers & the Lootbeggers Old Tyme Band

Get out your fiddles, banjos and dancing shoes as Old Tyme American Music comes to Scunthorpe!

The Bootleggers are very proud to present "Appalachian Magic; An Evening of Appalachian Music and Dance" with "Uncle Henry's Favourites, and Debby McClatchy; on tour from the USA next month.

This gathering of traditional American musicians aims to brighten up the long winter nights with Old-Time songs, dance and tunes from their beloved Appalachian Mountains. Fiddles, banjos and close harmony vocals will warm your hearts and set your feet tapping. Audience participation is very much encouraged, so if the spirit takes you - get up and join in!

"Uncle Henry's Favorites" hails from the rolling hills of Albermarle County, Virginia, where Old-Time Music is a family tradition. Debby McClatchy now resides in California where she specializes in Old-Time Mountain Banjo and song and still occasionally breaks into traditional 'clogging' or step dancing to tap out the rhythms of this infectious music with her feet.

In fact – if anyone wants to 'have a go' The Bootleggers have arranged for two special beginners workshops in the afternoon. Budding acoustic musicians can join Uncle Henry's to learn some Old Tyme tunes and anyone with a bit more energy can try out Appalachian clogging with Julia Pollock and the Bootleggers. Anyone who wants to try the dancing is recommended to wear hard soled shoes with a small heel or tap shoes and light clothing but all ages and abilities are catered for.

The workshops are at 3.30 – 5pm and only £2 on the door but booking by phone or email is recommended. The concert starts at 8pm and tickets are available from Paul's' Music on 01724 867650 or from Julia Pollock on 01724 843174 or email julia1pollock2@btinternet.com. All the events take place at St Hugh's Church Hall in Old Brumby, Scunthorpe on Saturday the 21st of February and the bar opens at 7.30. Come early and enjoy the fun!

Thanks for that Nick

Tyme is what Julia had on her flyer. So a copy and paste doesn't correct that :-)

Yeah, I'd had a copy of that flyer too. Ray says he keeps trying to tell her...
