Their website doesn't say much....but with the "Big Guns" departed..Are they doing much?...or are they (almost) defunct?

their web site says they performed in glascow last week and have other dates in 2009 scheduled. Does Sandy Silva still dance with them?

She used to do percussive dance with Mark Graham, who played harmonica.
They called themselves "Hoof and Mouth"

Yes... they performed at Celtic Connections in Glasgow on 29 January this year so still very much around despite major personnel changes.

Were they any good? Thinking of going to see them at Durham, but I'm not sure what difference the line-up changes have made.

La Bottine Souriante is back BIG TIME!! The amazing Benoit Bourque (Matapat, Le Vent du Nord) has taken over from departed member Pierre-Luc Dupuis. David Boulanger (a colossal young fiddler) has taken over from Andre Brunet. The rest of the lineup is about the same (Denis Frechette passed away last year, I think). Sandy Silva is definitely still dancing with them.

Just saw them at Festival du Bois in Vancouver in early March. AMAZING!!!! They did all the old songs (Ziguezon, La Poule a Colin). Benoit says they are working up new material and will be releasing a new CD.

They sounded just incredible when I saw them.

Benoit Bourque is now with La Bouttine! That should work out well for both. He's quite the showman. Does Ives Lambert have nothing to do with them today?

Yves Lambert left the group a number of years ago. He has nothing to do with the group now. Their newest album "J'ai Jamais Tant Ri" is actually really fabulous, despite being the first album made without any original members (and without Yves). Eric Beaudry is the heart and soul of that album, with beautiful tunes he found from edouard Richard and some great songs.

Here's a link to buy that album:

For those who don't know, Andre Brunet, Pierre-Luc Dupuis and Eric Beaudry (the core of the Bottine prior to Benoit coming on) have broken off to form their own ensemble, De Temps Antan. They are simply amazing!!!!!!

Eric Beaudry is still with La Bottine Souriante and also with De Temps Antan. La Bottine will perform at the Dublin (Ohio) Irish Festival this summer - July 31, Aug 1-2.

I heard this band maybe 18 years ago and again maybe 3 years ago. It was entirely different. New band was slick, impersonal, with lots of rock/pop overtones. The young people in the audience were thrilled, but for me, the heart of it was gone.
