SALT interview with Kendall

Last year, following up a recommendation from Utah Phillips, a student from the SALT Institute in Portland ME interviewed Kendall and me as part of his coursework. From those interviews he put together a short radio piece that you can hear here.

We think that he did a first class job.

Very well done. And Jacqui, that short clip was some nice singing. Very well done.

Kendall, one more time: we love you because you're you. So there. See you next week.

When I heard this interview, I remembered a story from Greek mythology. Epimetheus, brother of Prometheus, was given Pandora as his bride. She came with a dowry - a box which was never to be opened. Epimetheus (afterthought)couldn't resist. He opened the box and unleaches every evil known to man on the human race. But in the bottom of the box was Hope. Hope remained behind - the evilest torment and trickster of all.

The interview is beautifully done, Kendall. He has caught you.

Great interview.   But I kept waiting to hear Kendall say something about the Strategic Arms Limitation Talks (SALT). I suppose his clearance is so high that might be a breach of security.   But I had no idea about the national security aspect of Kendall's life.

That was a really fine piece--it really shows why all the girls are so crazy about him even when he takes that damn leather jacket off.

That was beautiful! Please pass on my congratulations to the young man; he did a wonderful job. Of course, he had some damn fine material to work with, with you two!

And, Kendall, Dan is right. We love for you and I am GLAD you are learning that. Jacqui...you are an Angel!

I must confess, when that very young man came to me with his request to interview me, my first thought was, hell son, you aint lived long enough to know anything.I've had so many interviews with people over the years who really should have been saying "Welcome to Wal-Mart" that I knew it would be a waste of time. However, something told me to give him a chance and was I ever wrong. I think he did a very professional job.

I sat my wife down to hear it, as one example of why I keep coming back to this "place". She's an Occupational Therapist, and over the years has worked with a lot of folks navigating rough waters for a variety of reasons. She did a lot of nodding, and really appreciated hearing it.

Thanks for posting this clip. Not only is it a professional piece of work, but the message, "never give up" comes through loud and clear! I hope it gets heard a very wide audience.

Best wishes,

Peter

A couple of thoughts come to me after listening to that wonderful piece of work...

First one is that I hope you understand, my dear buddy, how very much you are loved by so many friends, and what an incredible blow it would be to us if you left us. Having suffered a few losses of dreams precious myself, I understand how easy it is to slip into that area where we forget that we are loved and valued by others. Your life is certainly your own, but your actions (such as considering to leave) will impact others. In the end you make your own choices, but don't delude yourself that they only affect you. Those of us that know you, whether 3D or virtually, love you and need you and your influence in our lives.

The next is one is the reminder of the importance of life partners, true loves, the soul mate for whom you know that you have been created to know. Not everyone is so lucky as to find this person at exactly the right time. You were, you old coot, so count your blessings....... or you will end up in the cellar. Jacqui is that pearl of great worth, and I love her and how she came through in this interview.

When next we are together, I will sing "Rose of Allendale" for you, along with "His English Rose". I doubt I can do it the justice you would, but I will make a solid run at it.

Never doubt for a moment the amount of love there is out there, and how necessary you are to all of us.

Mick

You folks are just priceless. It is said that every time a door closes another opens. There may be something to this old saying.

Drat and blast! Happened upon this thread first thing in the morning at work, where I'm not allowed to stream audio; now I have to wait all day until I can go home and listen to you, dear friends.

Watching the clock...

I'll add this link to the top of things I can listen to one day. The SALT program has resulted in some important documentation. Fortunately, I know this interview is included in that category simply because of the quality of the folks involved.

My love and respect go with you both,

maeve
