BS: Dog Covers His Puke

Kind of a gross topic just before breakfast eh?
Well you have all seen a dog puke then leave it or turn around and lick it all up. Well yesterday afternoon our dog Ben puked in the snow then did something I have never seen a dog do before. With his snout he covered it all up then came back to the house. This morning he went outside and scratched the area and ate it for breakfast. Ever see this before? I guess you have to live where there is snow.

Our pet rabbit walked gingerly onto the snow covered lawn, got to his favourite patch, then used his front paws to push the snow away!

LOL!

One of the 'best' stories I ever heard about similar dog habits, came from an uncle.

Uncle was a bit hungover from the night before.
He took doggy in the car, into the countryside for a nice refreshing walk.
Doggy ate some other dog's dog shit.
Doggy threw up the dog shit, all over the back seat whilst driving home....
Uncle had to clean up doggys vomited up dog shit, whilst hungover.

Nice.

OK OK OK kiddies....

Wolves will overeat at the kill, on purpose, so they can use their tumtums to store and transport food for pack members not able to come along on the hunt-- infants, adults left behind tending infants, injured, elderly, etc. For them, some puke is not puke-- it's FOOD. So of course if FOOD came back up it would be saved, and protected, for later.

They can't CARRY it any other way, see? Life without opposable thumbs-- tricky.

I agree with what you say Susan, but have you ever heard of a domesticated dog covering it up? It really doesn't surprise me except I have never seen a dog do it. And I have had dogs as long as I can remember.

A group of Americans stationed in Christchurch New Zealand were on a project on Antarctica, with huskies.

At some point huskies broke into the latrine and ate the contents thereof.

Americans, anxious to press the scientific approach to the utmost, collected leftover samples from latrine AND huskies, under the theory that in the harsh climate, human bodies may egest something that dogs, with heightened senses, would recognize as nutritive.

Samples brought back to NZ, where upon study, the Americans were told, "There's nothing wrong with you, there's nothing wrong with the dogs. Huskies are just disgusting!"

Dogs have varying degrees of wolf instinct left to them. Our dogs, for example, prize some of the cat barf around our place. Only they understand their criteria. We can but admire their diligence.

Reminds me of a time in Safeways, as they were then called. I was getting some dog food..

Exasperated husband is glowering at indecisive wife standing in front of an aisle of lamb/beef/chicken/with or without vegetables/gray/rice/jelly/etc/etc/:

"For gawd sake, woman, hurry UP!"

"I can't help it, there's such a huge choice, I don't know what he'd like best.."

"For cryin' out loud, he eats *cow shit*! WHAT'S the problem?"

Heehee..I laughed and laughed about that.

Mmmmm..frozen dinners, Adrien. Has your dog recently invested in a microwave that you don't know about? ;0)

As it will be in the future, it was at the birth of Man --
There are only four things certain since Social Progress began: --
That the Dog returns to his Vomit and the Sow returns to her Mire,
And the burnt Fool's bandaged finger goes wabbling back to the Fire;
And that after this is accomplished, and the brave new world begins
When all men are paid for existing and no man must pay for his sins,
As surely as Water will wet us, as surely as Fire will burn,
The Gods of the Copybook Headings with terror and slaughter return!

Dogs are quite possibly the most uncouth creatures ever to stalk the Earth. Their instinctive attraction to filth, decaying carrion, and biological waste of every sort is remarkable. This is one of the reasons that cats don't like dogs and usually regard them with mixed horror and contempt, but it's only one of many such reasons. It would take a thick book to list all of them.

My Dachshund has a Masters in vomit detection and a PHD in filth acquisition and carrion disposal, and he's proud of it.

My son's dachshund thinks racoon poop is a true taste treat. But they became man's closest ally since they eat what we toss out; disgusting, but ecologically correct.

(Alas, when they consume disgusting things, they don't seem to convert it to useful biofuel.)

I'll never forget a time we were preparing chicken for a BBQ at the Legion. It was a beautiful day and we were all outside with sharp knives removing the excessive fat off the chicken legs. We forgot the buckets full of this fat under the table. Well, a couple of hours later I remembered that it should be placed in the garbage bin.   Went outside. To late. Almost that is. The neighbors dog ventured over and had it self one hell of a meal. If it didn't bring it up I'm sure it had the skitters for days.

I don't think we should think we're that much better than dogs,

I've seen human beings eat savalloys!

O - kay...I entered savalloys in two search engines, and didn't get a thing. Are they tasty? Wutnhell is a savalloy? : )

Possibly I'm spelign ti wrung.

Savalloy was the name of a nasty little red sausage of which I had a dinner of 'em one eve in New Zealand. They went down easily enough as do a lot of nasty things made of pig. Went to sleep in a bag in a tent next to a ducky lake. Stomach reacted -badly- to the savalloys. Unzipped said tent and discharged the lot with very little time to spare. Wherupun I was able to more or less get me sleep. Awoke to the rozyfinggereddunn and a loud quacky commotion in the vicinity of me tent entrance canyou seewhere thisis going. With some trepidation unzipped tent to witness on swift retreat about twenty more or less cutelittle yellowduckies evacuating the premises after having cleaned up every last bit of those peri-digested little wieners.

There wuz a witness, but she married someone else and swears it wasn't because of the ducky savalloys incident.

Oh, gawd...
Two bums were walking down the railroad track, both extremely famished. They come upon the remains of a cat which hadn't quite gotten clear of the rail in time, and which had subsequently ripened in the sun for a awhile. One of them ate some of it. The other refused the offer of a share. "How", he exclaimed, "can you eat a cold dead cat". It wasn't all that long before the first bum regurgitated. The second then proceeded to eat it. "I knew", he said, "that if I waited awhile, I could have mine warm".

Don't blame me; blame the other kid in 3rd grade who told us that one...

Truth is ickier than fiction:

A while ago I read that a POW in Vietnam had supplemented his rations by eating rats & snakes fished out of the latrine.

That immediately reminded me of a story I had read from W.W. II. The inmates of a concentration camp were lined up to watch a batch of Russian POWs be shot by a firing squad. Afterward, they scurried over to eat their brains off the pavement.

How come we're so lucky?

Our 2 greyhounds won't eat their own puke ... but at the sound of the cat upchucking it's a race to see who can get there first and gobble up the delectable spew.
