11 Feb 09 - 08:05 PM (#2564469) Subject: RE: MUZAK HAS FILED FOR BANKRUPTCY From: pdq I would rather listen to 20-year-old Muzak tapes while I shop in the local supermarket than have to listen to the squealing Urban Sink Noise we have now. Hate the huge tumping bass most of all. |

11 Feb 09 - 10:43 PM (#2564571) Subject: RE: Muzak has filed for Bankruptcy From: Rapparee Right, McG. It ranks right up there with the announcements that say things like TIRES! CUSTOMER HELP IS NEEDED IN TIRES! Some stores are using radios, though. They can still cut out the music, though -- including in restaurants. |

12 Feb 09 - 04:22 AM (#2564688) Subject: RE: Muzak has filed for Bankruptcy From: Gurney I didn't think Musak was that bad compared with the stuff that is playing in some shops today. Perhaps that's because I seem to be older than the cumulative age of the entire staff. |

12 Feb 09 - 07:14 AM (#2564775) Subject: RE: Muzak has filed for Bankruptcy From: Jack Campin Possibly the modern stuff people here object to so much *is* Muzak. They moved with the times and provided a huge range of tailored options for different kinds of customer. |

12 Feb 09 - 07:31 AM (#2564784) Subject: RE: Muzak has filed for Bankruptcy From: kendall When it gets to me I just seek out the manager and demand that they turn it down. One of them told me that most people enjoy the "music" which was the wrong thing to say to me! I told him that it has the opposite effect on me, and that it makes me want to break things and hurt someone." He said, "Well, we don't want that" and he turned it almost off. I don't go to a store to be entertained, and I highly resent being forced to listen to someone else's poor taste in music. That crap they play now sounds like a hog caught in a barbed wire fence. Caterwalling is the word.It makes my nerves bleed. |

12 Feb 09 - 08:49 AM (#2564834) Subject: RE: Muzak has filed for Bankruptcy From: Rapparee I think I first realized what Muzak was when I heard The Beatles' "Eleanor Rigby" done as a strings instrumental obviously designed to promote buying more stuff. |

12 Feb 09 - 09:09 AM (#2564850) Subject: RE: Muzak has filed for Bankruptcy From: Wesley S I had a doctor that allowed his employees to play a CD of their choice over the PA system. So the first time I walked in his office there was Van Morrisons Astral Weeks playing. Greg - the doctor - maintained a veto power however. He said he was trying to keep his office a Yanni free zone. |

12 Feb 09 - 09:59 AM (#2564878) Subject: RE: Muzak has filed for Bankruptcy From: SINSULL My first experience with Muzak was a job in the early 70s. We started the day with "Hi Ho Hi Ho, It's Off To Work We Go. Lunch was followed by the Can Can from Orpheus In The Underworld. The music was "designed" to motivate us...all day loooooonnnnggggggg. I almost lost my mind. DEATH TO MUZAK! |

12 Feb 09 - 12:16 PM (#2565027) Subject: RE: Muzak has filed for Bankruptcy From: robomatic When I read the thread title my initial reaction was word for word the same as Kendall's. My first job in Alaska was in an office with piped in music. I noticed that they played the theme song for "St. Elsewhere" on Thursdays when the show aired (good show but why try to do a Pavlov on me?) Anyhow, I stayed up late with a screwdriver and killed the speaker over my work station one night. |

12 Feb 09 - 12:22 PM (#2565032) Subject: RE: Muzak has filed for Bankruptcy From: Rapparee I had some dental work done in Cincinnati and the oral surgeon asked me what I wanted to listen to while he was whittling. He didn't have Schooner Fare, but he did have Sibelius. |
