26 Feb 09 - 01:51 PM (#2576540) Subject: RE: Brian Peters ballad forum Lewes 1 March From: Valmai Goodyear Lamkin has also been claimed (variant of Long Langkin). This brings the probable death toll to about thirty-two, depending on how many babies are included in The Well Below The Valley and whether you count the previous victims of The Outlandish Knight. George Collins must account for six or seven. Valmai |
26 Feb 09 - 07:31 PM (#2576838) Subject: RE: Brian Peters ballad forum Lewes 1 March From: Valmai Goodyear Surreysinger has just raised the toll by one, having chosed The Unquiet Grave. I suppose deaths should strictly happen during the course of the song to count. Valmai |

02 Mar 09 - 02:40 AM (#2579037) Subject: RE: Brian Peters ballad forum Lewes 1 March From: Valmai Goodyear Brian gave us a couple of terrific days: a melodeon workshop on Saturday, splendid folk club performance on Saturday night, and a superb ballad forum on the Sunday during which fourteen people relieved themselves of about eighteen full ballads and edited highlights of several more. Because people had nominated their ballads in advance, Brian had been able to do a good deal of research on them and came up with a fascinating collection of rare recordings ranging from Irish travellers to Appalachian mountain singers; the participants themselves also produced a lot of historical detail, insights and background. If you get the chance to take part in one of Brian's workshops, don't miss it. Valmai (Lewes) |
