The rest of the accompanying YouTube blurb says the song "was a Swiss song written in French." (I take that to mean the songwriters were French speakers from Switzerland, because the village the song is about is apparently in France. ) It also says that Piaf and Les Compagnons de la Chanson began their USA Tour in 1945/46 with this song featured. The English cover version, The Three Bells, by country artists The Browns was released in 1959. |

Record sales had dropped and they weren't getting too many offets. Chet Atkins asked them if there were any songs they had always wanted to record but never did. Turns out, the song, "The Three Bells" had always been a favorite of theirs and Jim and also Maxine or Bonnie, had sang the song, at their High School graduation. So Chet set them up for a recording session and they recorded it. It became an immediate smash hit and extended their careers for several years. They had to shorten the song to meet preferred time length. G |
