Tom was unaware (or had forgotten, rather) that I have to work on Sunday, the 15th -- so that my coworker will work for me on Tuesday (St. Patrick's Day) when I need to be on stage at The Press Room instead of closing Sears Optical.

But...we'll be there. I have to be disciplined enough not to indulge too much and to get to bed early, and we'll have to leave earlier than usual the next morning.

Sounds like a week of "too much fun"...!

Definitely can't do it, alas, on a Friday night -- not only because of the Press Room session, but because I open Saturday. Just can't do it -- really disappointed that I can't see Brian again.

Joe really enjoys it when you all munch on crispy things all together, as its hard for him to hit the target

unless he's gone in for straffing' !

Hows his scar?

Check house insurance and I hope you are well away from neighbors

property prices could be lowered even further

Its not too late to change the venue, I hear there's a disused mine shaft nearby.

you have my admiration

Ah the days of the Tramp shed

At least he wont be over here, do keep him.

It'll be just our luck that there'll be a baggage handlers strike and they wont be able to load him on board

nick his banjo

please

and him

ah, sighs of relief

Breezy - If he has a banjo he may find that he gets trapped in SINSULL's house. She's been looking for a banjo player for quite a while now.

From Joe's website:
Joe Stead began singing folk songs in the 1950's.

Referred to as a legend by some he is certainly a folklorist of some repute on numerous aspects of folklore. He has met and sung with Paul Robeson and Pete Seeger.

He was recently invited to sing in Chile in South America at the First Valparaiso Festival of the Sea. Together with Kimber's Men he appears frequently at festivals all over Great Britain.

Professional performer since 1966.

Owner of Greenwich Village Records and Sweet Folk All Recordings, 1973 -1989.

Folk Agent, 1972 - 1986.

Specialty workshops and lectures. 'The Life and times of Paul Robeson' and 'Valparaiso round the Horn'.

I was very, very tired, but still managed a chorus or two, and tried hard to be a good audience. He does manage to fill the room, even without the rest of Kimber's Men! There was no chance of my falling asleep, that's for sure.

I've got some fat free cheese here. Tastes like somebody was eating American cheese-flavored product and then sneezed. I guess it's better than no cheese. I can have a LITTLE fat (I actually have to have a little fat). Non-fat half & half sucks, so I allot for that.

I will work calories off singing. Luckily, alcohol is 100% fat free!

I love brussels sprouts and cauliflower, which is great if you add a smidge of nutmeg. (It's even better with a cheese/cream sauce or garlic and a lot of butter, but dairy is why I'm on this diet.)

Me, too, on the veggies -- especially cauliflower, broccoli, brussel's sprouts, asparagas...fava beans, chickpeas, onions, carrots, parsnips, turnips and rutabega. Oh, and kolrabi -- though not many people even know what it is. And I LIKE zucchini! (Fried with onions, zucchini bread, etcet etcet.) Not crazy about okra except pickled, but I can't think of anything I don't like.

Another great evening. Joe is a treasure - he kept the whole room in fits of laughter for most of the evening. His lovely wife, Nora, tried to keep him somewhat in line, but, fortunately, was not too successful in that regard. Joe seemed very pleased with the fact that the whole room joined in the choruses.

The after concert singaround was amazing, lots of energy and it was still going pretty well when I left about 1.15.

This sort of event is well worth the time and effort that goes into making it happen.

Joann and I were laughing ourselves to tears. Joe is a very humourous character. His music is wonderful - and yes we did enjoy the choruses.
Nora is a pleasure - and a non-morning person like me.
To bed at 3:15 and up at 8AM. I am too old to be having this much fun.
There was a wealth of music after the concert as well. It has been too long.

many thanks to Joe and Nora for a memorable evening.

By the way, did no one else notice that Joe is Micca only bigger?????? Fortunately, he kept his clothes on.

I'm finally starting to believe I'll live. Nasty migraine, and I didn't even drink much (less than a glass of wine and a taste of Lagavulin. You HAVE to (at least) taste 18 year-old single malt.

So now I'm not feeling like hammered dog crap, I've managed to eat something, it's a beautiful day out, AND I have a couple new CDs to enjoy.!

I gotta say Joe just owns the stage, even if it's a house concert and there's no stage. He can be hilarious and turn around and sing a beautiful, evocative piece of aural poetry. Plus, his mandojobanjolin is really cool.
