Hi all

Some of you tech savvy Mudcatters might be able to help solve this problem. For some reason I can no longer get midis in the DT and from other online sources to play on my PC. This problem has only occurred in the past week, up till then I had no problems. Can anybody advise me what to do to restore my PCs ability to play these midis. I think it was Quicktime Player that loaded when I played midis.

When I play video or listen to music online, I often find that evil spirits in their software has gone into my Control Panel and turned the volume of the synthesizer down to zero. The synth seems to be what actually plays MIDI files. (I use Windows XP.)

On the bottom of your screen is there an icon of a small, gray bullhorn (old-fashioned speaker)? Double click on it, and if the synth bar is way down, push it up halfway. Then close the box.

If not, then go
start
settings
control panel
sounds and audio devices
advanced
slide the synth bar up
minimize the volume box to make it easier next time

I have to do this rather often. Apparently MIDI users are considered marginal customers so it's all right to inconvenience us.

Hi leeneia

Thanks for your input, it's not volume control. When I click on a midi in the DT a new window opens up to reveal a blank screen with a small square up in the top left hand corner. Inside this small square is a red X

well i hVE MANAGED TO PLAY MIDI FILES AGAIN a bit drastic though i use cakewalk to play midi's untill i updated quick time and all midi's were played with quick time after that i checked file association and cakewalk was the default program i then deleted quicktime and then media player played the midi files i went to windows media player and took out the tick for windows media player to play midi's then an old media player found in system 32 folder play the midi's i renamed the file and now cakewalk play'sthe midi files again a bit drastic i know and i am sure there must be an easier way someone out there might know and just to clear a point it doesn't make any difference to quicktime if you tell it not to play midi files it still does if you have any questions please reply

Hi all

Thanks for your help. I eventually solved the problem by first deleting and then reloading Quicktime Player.

Kind regards
