20 Feb 09 - 03:40 PM (#2572034) Subject: Tech: editing DVD for youtube From: Phil Cooper I'm trying to figure out how I can edit bits from a couple DVD's people have done of us at recent performances and post them on youtube. My computer geek nephew was visiting for Christmas (he does intern work for NASA, so is a bit more computer savy than me) and helped me post something. He walked me through the program and I figured out how to post it. But do you think I remembered? Since then, I have tried repeatedly to upload some songs from the DVD drive. It seems like it would be an easy thing to flag the start and stop times, but it is not working. We determined that the moviemaker program that comes with windows xp sucks. He put two web programs (video lab and some called avidemux ?) and I have not had better luck with those. Short of importing the nephew again (he lives 800 miles away), does anyone have any advice, in standard english, that I could try? Thanks. --Phil |

If you want, I could send you some "walk through it" instructions, from what I know about using it. I don't think it works well to try to upload raw video to youtube, though I've never tried it. What I do is use a program called DVDx it is a free conversion program that will convert the dvd format to any other format. MP3 or mpeg is a good choice. Once the video is converted you can upload it to youtube. Your nephew probably gave you some other program to do the conversion but DVDx is easy to use, it is free and you will be on youtube in a few minutes with it |

21 Feb 09 - 11:57 AM (#2572501) Subject: RE: Tech: editing DVD for youtube From: olddude OH on windows movie maker, just create a project, import the mpeg video you converted from dvdx from there you can mess with the movie anyway you want to edit it you can add a title by going under tools and add whatever title you wish. Once you are finished, save the movie (under file save movie). This will convert it to WMV format that is also usable by youtube. Play with it, you cannot hurt a thing ok. It will save by default under my documents , my videos windows movie maker is pretty good actually for such things. It comes with windows |

The programme can convert DVD into a variety of file formats such as MP4, AVI, MP3 etc and has features such as trim, crop and colour effect. I usually do my editing before conversion using a DVD player and DVD recorder to get my clips the way I want them. I find editing away from the computer using a TV, DVD & DVDR to be a better option. I convert all my clips into MP4 format. Check out MerseysideVideos on You Tube to see the quality. MV |

If you get stuck, I do check my PMs frequently. ol'd is right, though, you can't hurt anything by going in and playing around with wmm...just click on tools and have a blast. There are all kinds of visual effects and, as ol'd said, ways to add titles and end credits in all kinds of interesting ways. Have fun!:-) |

You will have to turn your volume up all of the way as it was a live recording with a low volume, but Phil deserves kudos for getting this far with his video plans.
