From: GUEST, topsie As you've noticed that there are different producers it might be worth noting the name of the producer on days when there is an interesting music item. The producer is likely to have an email address consisting of their name in some form followed by @bbc.co.uk - so you might find it by trial and error. |

From: Surreysinger Well speaking for myself I used the email address on their page as the only contact details I could find, and sent them a suggestion that they should consider something about Lucy Broadwood in view of her 150th birthday anniversary back in August last year ... I might just as well not have bothered. The email was sent off, with a request on my part for details of who to contact if that was not the correct email address .... and I never had any reply whatsoever... I was NOT impressed. And I do agree Anne, that trying to find any contact details is like trying to pull hen's teeth!!!!! (If you do find out in due course - I'd love to know as well) Irene |

I suppose when I asked my original question I was hoping someone here would have some personal (successful) experience and could help directly, because finding the website and looking at it was of course the first thing I did. If anyone reading this thread does actually know who I might contact I'd be very grateful for the information ...oh, and as Irene works with Ralphie I'm guessing that Ralphie can't help in this case! They must get thousands. Probably some poorly paid little middle aged woman who is off sick indefinitely. And she does it for the entire BBC. I am having the same issue regards getting a personal contact for BBC TV 1 Who Do you Think You Are programme. I do stats for the Essex Record Office and I want to compare viewer ratings with Record Office usage. The only contact info is useless email. Good luck. Please let us know how you get on. She's been there for donks and must know Everybody. She's also presented a number of the music slots and might be sympathetic. If she likes the idea you're pitching, maybe she might lend some influence...? Worth a try? |

And VT - sounds as if you need to talk to one of the researchers on the programme ideally ...My husband has been through the process of discovering the names of various people responsible for some programmes he was in when he wanted to use a few clips on his video showreel, so I'll ask him later how he found out who to talk to. From: The Borchester Echo When I worked in Children's Television, bright 9-year-olds hadn't the slightest difficulty in getting through on the dog'n'bone to the gallery during live transmission seconds after a presenter had made some sort of gaffe: [Like 'don't you know Canberra, not Sydney, is the capital of Australia?] Don't quite know what goes on behind the glass in radio these days (possibly they only take calls that generate revenue), but I find it quite puzzling that grown people are having so much trouble in contacting Woman's Hour. Emailing the editor Jill Burridge at the obvious address would seem most straightforward approach if you can't be arsed to negotiate Audienceline. Though I would point out that she is singularly averse to PR promo blagging and is strong on topicality and sound editorial content. Personally, I have never had the slightest problem with Woman's Hour (though can scarcely say the same for some other production offices) either in pitching ideas or in seeking further information about a broadcast. |

As to "grown people having so much trouble" ...the point to my original question was quite simply that rather than sending an email to an unidentified individual via the BBC website, or sending a package to an unnamed person I wondered whether anyone here knew of a name to try. Different days of the week have had different names attached to them and for those of us unaccustomed to pitching ideas it's not at all obvious. From: Surreysinger I have to say that having had another go at negotiating the BBC website again today after reading your message Anne, it is a very muddy track ... I did manage to find one item (I think under the "contact us" banner )suggesting that if you had an idea for programme content (specifically quoting Woman's Hour) go to the programme page and "send us an email" - exactly what I found when I was looking the last time. Being used to believing that if that's what I've been instructed to do then that's the acceptable route, that is what I did "as a grown person". However, the BBC site is less than helpful in indicating who you are approaching by this means, or indeed if there _is_ a correct address. Obviously it helps if you have a name to fix onto, or some knowledge of the system. I've just gone back on to the home page for the programme - the "About Us " section features past and present presenters, but I haven't yet found any mention anywhere of the producers of the programme, so it's interesting to find a specific name to latch onto - thanks for that Diane. |

I have no idea what it takes to make them interested as they seem to feature many people with less of a claim to be interesting than me ... recently I suggested they might want to take note of the Anonyma reunion tour, featuring two of us in our early sixties hitting the road again after a lengthy gap while (out of sheer synchronicity) having both signed up for doctoral studies, and with a good track record behind each of us of past performances and songwriting successes .... As a result he suffered a break down and his confidence was shattered. It has ruined our lives. The only thing people can suggest is charity work. But that does not have the same disciplines and cutting edge nature of working in a commercial organisation. The lack of really intense interaction with colleagues and clients has been lost. Most of our contacts are with people our age or older. I think you should dedicate one of your programmes to the devastation caused by enforced retirement and the lack of opportunities to work in that age group. Many of us are capable productive , intelligent and capable of hard work. |
