what in the hell do y'all think Harry Chapin meant by this

Oh, I've got something inside me,
To drive a princess blind.
There's a wild man, wizard,
He's hiding in me, illuminating my mind????

She may look down on him for being a taxi driver, but he knew the music was inside him .. "the wild man wizard illuminating his mind"

He just needed the right break and the right song

Taxi turned out to be the one

Our Bruce was an English Teacher on the outside
on the inside ... A Wild man wizard of world class music

not everything is as it appears, that is what Harry meant by it

I think it's sorta "If she only knew what kind of crazy stuff goes on in my mind..."

Creative people may feel like that, but I think it aplies to a lot of people. "They don't see the real me. If they did, they probably wouldn't be able to take it."

I always thought it meant that the taxi driver felt there was more too him than people could see from outside and that he could have accomplished all kinds of exciting things if he had not been thwarted by circumstances and his own failings.
