I've just learned that two Concertina players appeared on Phil Cunningham's Gracenotes TV show last Saturday night.

Thanks to Simon Thoumire for the nod on this.

Unfortunately I didn't see it myself, ......... but I'm actually watching it now on iPlayer:

Phil Cunningham's Gracenotes

Does anyone know who these two men are/were? ???

Cheers
Dick

Here's a great photo of Gordon & Peter playing their Concertinas with Phil on the Big Box, thanks to Stuart Eydmann, who was the consultant for that section of the programme.

GORDON HAXTON, PHIL CUNNINGHAM & PETER DONALD

Oh they've had a Banjo on Scottish TV now for many, many years .... it's usually strapped to Billy Connolly! :-)

You can read more about this use of Concertinas over at: The Concertina as an Instrument of Sacred Music ~ S. Eydmann

Thanks for that great programme and at first glance parallels with the Sheffield Carols.

What it does show is how it is possible to make a show about folk music with no sneers and that the music itself is important as well.

And produced by a man called Twaddle.......

Aye Dave, very enjoyable indeed.

Given the subject matter, it could so easily have been stuffy & boring, but I thought Phil Cunningham's easy, relaxed, natural manner in front of the camera & while chatting to folk on camera were just what the doctor ordered.

I'm sure he is Goran, especially as Haxton wouldn't be a common name.

Also had Mick West singing in the pub with Phil Cunningham. I mentioned this to Dave Cowan of Fyrish on Monday at Barnsley fc and he has fond memories of Mick West from Glasgow!

Pity that this not on all of BBC in Uk, at least can be seen online anywhere ~ such a brill musician that Phil Cunnigham and down to earth for a religious progamme
