10 Mar 09 - 12:18 AM (#2585284) Subject: RE: Zentz, Morse & Hicks at FSGW (19 March 09) From: Charlie Baum My fondest memory of Ken Hicks is at the Connecticut Family Folk Festival in Elizabeth Park in [West] Hartford in the early 80s. He and Bob Zentz had flown up to Hartford from Norfolk on USAir, and Ken asked for and received several dozen packets of USAir peanuts, which he flung out randomly into the crowd during his set. Great publicity for the airline (and good munchies for all of us in the audience). Ken has a way with food. --Charlie Baum |

20 Mar 09 - 08:46 AM (#2593295) Subject: RE: Zentz, Morse & Hicks at FSGW (19 March 09) From: GUEST,Dani Yes! Review! ... reminds me of a great scene from The Office. Michael is planning to host his own roast, and says something like, "We'll even get those guys from Youtube here to film it!" Dani |
20 Mar 09 - 09:24 AM (#2593309) Subject: RE: Zentz, Morse & Hicks at FSGW (19 March 09) From: Bill D well, someone said, "It wasn't a concert, it was just a party"....and that about covers it... except that 3 of the party were on stage at various times. Some songs were sung, some stories were told, some food & drink were consumed.... and silliness & seriousness were mixed in odd measure. (It 'may' be that silliness won out.) YouTube? You'll have to ask Kendall what he was doing with that tiny little gadget Jacqui was guarding back at the CD table. |
20 Mar 09 - 08:01 PM (#2593706) Subject: RE: Zentz, Morse & Hicks at FSGW (19 March 09) From: Severn A good and wonderous time was had by all. I went to see and hear two friends and a stranger perform and came back knowing and having three friends. Mr. Hicks came out at one point wearing a paper currency-laden coat and, as Reverend E.Z. Money, preached us a sermon, so all of us ended up with both dollars AND Zentz, as well as experiencing a full measure of Re-Morse at the end during the encore. There were tales from all and songs of friendship, water and Thomas Jefferson's tomatoes. In the end, what more could anyone want except more?..... .....Yeah, you all shoulda been there...... |
20 Mar 09 - 09:09 PM (#2593748) Subject: RE: Zentz, Morse & Hicks at FSGW (19 March 09) From: Ron Davies Sorry so many Mudcatters missed the concert last night, due to unimportant details like lack of teleporting capability. As Severn, Bill, Nancy, and other concertgoers have said, it was a really fun music party. Ken Hicks did indeed appear as the Rev. Ezekiel Zechariah (EZ) Money and exhorted the faithful, then led us in some group-participation talking blues. The Skipper told us about some amazing goings-on in his part of Maine, which, as he noted, has no heavy industry, unless you count the local 400-lb Avon lady. And Bob Zentz, asserting his right to turn the alphabet around, charmed the whole room effortlessly, and managed to keep the Odd Couple he'd been linked to from stealing the show. Bob even contributed a verse to Ken Hicks' signature song, a verse he and Gordon Bok had come up with and which gave a certain bracing flavor to the the song. A concert by any or all is not to be missed. Coming to a YouTube site near you? The Shadow doesn't know. But the Cap'n might. |
