While Max is moving...

I thought I would remind you aall of the unmoderated forum to which CarolC kindly drew our attention a while back. I seem to be the only one of us there so far, but who knows?

There is also this one Richard, and it IS moderated.
Several Mudcatters are member there, and use it to check up, when they can't get into Mudcat, just to see if anyone else shares their problem.

What is very nice is to have two places to gather when the 'Cat is offline, or any other time.

And let's remind everyone to trace this thread so that they can check where to go if the 'cat is down.

If you trace this thread it will not show up when the Cat is down because Trace is within-the-Cat.

I am sure what he meant was to bookmark those or save this thread to hard disk now, for later.

It's also a good reminder-time to be sure you have offCat contact info for people here with whom you may be in the middle of some messaging, or who matter to you most. How I do it is I send them a PM with "My Contact Info" as the subject so it's easily found later in my PM storehouse, cuz when they reply it's already titled that way.

Trouble with Facebook - as far as I can see - is that you actually have to join it to view anybody's page, which means having a page of your own and your name going into their database (or whatever you call it). I'd rather just be able to blog, like we used to do on the Annexe. I like FailteFolk (haven't visited Carol's site yet) but we really need a quorum.

My partner jokes about me needing to join Mudcat Anonymous (at least he thinks he's joking...)

Just for information, most of the Acoustic Guitar Talk Talk Talk forum is also moderated (although it's been a very long time since any actual moderation has been necessary), and membership is necessary for posting. There is a forum within the larger forum that is not moderated for anyone who prefers unmoderated discussion, but the rest of it is moderated and has rules that are outlined in the faq thread.

26 Feb 09 - 08:14 PM (#2576875)

I should also mention that it operates democratically, so anyone who becomes a member has an equal vote in what happens there with the rest of the membership.

Just saw the post about the fascist witch who posts in our unmoderated forum. Yup. She likes to post stuff there about Jackson Grimes' presidential ambitions. Jackson Grimes has formed his own little fascist party.

Since the TTT is democratically operated, the membership votes on how they want the place to be set up. When we had our first vote on whether or not to be moderated and have rules, some people were very upset when most of the members voted for moderation of the forum. They wanted a place to post where they wouldn't be moderated. We had a vote, and the majority voted to have one part of the forum be unmoderated. So as an area that is not moderated, the Gothic Witch is allowed to post her political stuff there. I do draw the line at anything that is in violation of the Yuku terms of service, or anything that can cause legal problems for me.

Capt Birdseye - when you follow a person's posts so closely that you copy and paste them into your own posts, many people would consider that stalking. I had somebody do it to me every day for five years, and it was unnerving. Leave Megan L. alone - and Megan, do likewise.

Easy? Then why am I so tired? I "slept" on an air mattress last night in an empty house next to a box of houseplants, a lizard and the Mudcat server. I should have taken a picture, it was a site to see. I moved the family last week, and settled on the sale of the house today. I used the lizard as an excuse to the buyers to let me keep the server there until after settlement to minimize downtime. Truth is, I had a ball. I love this shit.

My dear friend "Rebel Yell" paid a visit and read the threads to the talk-talk-talk-Carol-likes-to-talk ....Website posted as a MudCat alternative in the first post of this thread

This hosting site appeared to JUST to her third-world liking. A chance to experience western civilization in ALL of its refined perfection.

It is presented as an example of "Democracy In Action" and not the sort of kingdom found within "Max's Mudcat Monarcry." ANYONE - could become a "citizen" and "everyone" that registered had a vote. Several Mudcat disenters of past flame/fame are registered and Scorch and Torch and paddle a saddle.

Except ... AS noted above...in this thread...."disconcordance" within the "democratic voting community" is discouraged and their head will be dislocated their spin.

I am doing JUST Fine in Max's Peaceable Kingdom - with an occasional - shout-out from a "LifeGuard on Duty" to not "Run on the Decks" recognising it is for my own safety.

The Mudcat, is like Uncle Tom's Topsey - it just grew - and grew - and grew. I have grown with it....Twelve years ago I would have been screaming about 863 - phone numbers and the drive for Independence ... today I worry if such a reference might land a "curious soul" in Federal Prison.

All things considered....Ms. Rebel Yell .... will stay away from the welcoming fold of the democratic Carol's TalkTalkTalk and she will explore the posibilities afforded under Max's more benevolent dictatorship.

Sincerely,
Gargoyle

Since RebelYell's home country of origin...as recorded by Carol's ISP loggings ... is within the domain of the family of Saud ... magestic magnaminity is understood and preferable to poisoned prejudice.

I just offered the use of it while the Mudcat was down. I wasn't looking to take people away from the Mudcat, if that is what is being suggested. Newcomers are always welcome, but it won't ruin my day if people would prefer to use the Facebook page or the Failte Folk forum.

Hey. I like it. It's got rhythm. Make a good song. You could sing it to the tune of something like 'The Atchison, Topeka And The Santa Fe'.*

Last word doesn't quite scan, though. Anybody think of a one-syllable stand-in for Server?

Cause nothing's gonna move until my screen unblocks
I'd rather be tortured by electric shocks
Than lose the plants and lizard and the Mudcat box

I can drink too much and pig out on chocs
I can read the kid a story about Goldilocks
Play my records, watch the telly but nothing rocks
Like the houseplants and the lizard and the Mudcat box

Wouldn't trade it for the gold in old Fort Knox

Hey, Garg, I understood you perfectly. :)

It was good to see the cat move so smoothly. I can visualize the spartan circumstances with the air mattress as you finished at the old house. When we first moved into this house (from an apartment) I'd had time after giving 30 days notice to have my contractor pull out the old carpet and finish remodeling the kitchen, but it was like we camped out here while I painted and tiled the bedrooms one at a time. Cots, sleeping bags, a few chairs around a small table in the kitchen until we could unpack everything else. . . it was musical bedrooms for a while. But it was a good time, as we all figured out how to compensate for the house being updated around us.

I expected nothing less. My buddy is a whiz, and I am constantly blown away by his unique ability to juggle so many balls. I think, if the head examine folks were to peek in there, they would find that he is the perfect blend of insane IQ, ADHD, and a dude who just loves folks and family, life, music, and a beagle. Actually, I hope they don't figure out the beagle, cause that might be grounds for committal. I don't think they allow mudcat boxes in a padded cell......LOL. The insane IQ allows him to resolve problems quickly, and then the ADHD kicks in and he moves on to something else, like family, friends, music, and the beagle. The love of all that keeps him checking in until there is a problem again...... then he focuses on fixing it, and getting back on with loving life... see how it works? And we are all the happy recipients of this wonder of nature, and we are all over the world. I'm tellin' ya .... we are the world ...... we are the children .... we are
