JON BODEN & THE REMNANT KINGS - 2nd MARCH, 8.00pm

Jon Boden has appeared twice before at the Maltings - alongside Jon Spiers in Eliza Carthy's Ratcatchers and in the folk big-band Bellowhead. His performances and recordings in the duo with John have gained the singer and multi-instrumentalist numerous awards and plaudits from the press. His brainchild, Bellowhead, has achieved an enormous following throughout Europe, appeared on the Jools Holland programme and headlined the first Folk Day at the BBC Royal Albert Hall Proms.

With the imminent release of his latest solo CD, "Songs From The Floodplain", Jon has embarked on a short tour in the company of The Remnant Kings. The line up of the Kings is Sam Sweeney (percussion and fiddle), Dave Angel
(electric and acoustic guitars), Matt Grime (double bass) and Rob Harbron (concertina), who recently performed at the Maltings with the Methera Quartet.

The reviews of "Songs From The Floodplain" are beginning to roll in including "this is as grand as it gets in contemporary folk" (Spiral Earth); "as gentle and fragile as they are the opening and closing tracks carry the sort of dignified majesty you rarely hear in any musical form" (fROOTS), "his understated use of mystery and intrigue
is brilliant and the album slowly knits into a magical mystery tour ... an inherent beauty prevails" (The Observer").

Tickets are £12.00 (concessions £10.00) and can be obtained from the box office, 01252 745444, or online at www.farnhammaltings.com

Hope to see you there on Monday

I should have said that this is part of a VERY short tour (seven dates only) and that this is the only gig on it which is taking place south of the river Thames ... and as Dave said ... go see!!

They are in Nottingham (The Maze) next Thursday 5th March. I have just received a copy of "Songs From The Floodplain" and it is by any standards a captivating work which really demands being heard far and beyond the folk scene.

The obvious venue in which to behold Jon B & mates is the Oxford Jericho on Saturday 7 March, swathed in echoes of fabulous Spiers & Boden memories of past great times.

There is a London date, but sadly not the late lamented Spitz but the nearly as good Luminaire on Wednesday, but I'll be somewhere else.

I'm still (unusually) lost for words on the subject of how excellent in all aspects Songs From The Floodplain is
