An Goilin 30th Anniversary

An Goilin Traditional Singers Club will celebrate its 30th anniversary on the weekend of 15th-16th of May 2009. We hope many of our "old friends" will try to be with us to mark the event in a suitable manner. At the moment we plan to have the usual singing session on Friday May 15th with a singing session on the afternoon of Saturday 16th followed by a bit of food with the "Anniversary Singing Session" on Saturday night. All to take place in The Teachers Club, 36 Parnell square, Dublin 1.

Would have loved to make this my first visit the club (and I'm still planning to try and make it over for the club at some point), but sadly I'm booked to perform somewhere else (like here in Guildford) on 16th May. I hope that the event goes well Jerry, and look forward to seeing you and Anne later in the year?

Jerry - heartiest congratulations to the Goilin on reaching this milestone.

I wished I could be with you too, fate compels me etc etc...

And I'll make it one day too.

Dave

Looking forward to this event. Should be good. A weekend not to be missed except it clashes with the 3rd Saturday which is the North Wicklow Singers circle night. It isn't possible to avoid clashing with everything Jerry.

Those who cannot get to Dublin on the Saturday can stop off at the Strand Hotel In Bray.

From indications already it's shaping up to be excellent! Sorry about the Saturday clash George, I suppose it's inevitable to clash with something.

understood Jerry but we will miss your support. I will take the opportunity of squawking out some of your songs in your absence. i would never sing them in your presence.

I think there are enough singers to ensure good nigths at both venues.

See you in Howth tonight. i think i may go to Spancil Hill tomorrow night. Not certain yet. Very cold for the camper. Any message for Robbie if I go?

Just been to visit the Teachers' Club in Parnell Square to see how preparations are going. I can report that it is looking mighty for tomorrow. I'm rearing to go. Get there if you possibly can. It's going to be a hell of a weekend. Miss it at your peril.

Great weekend of meeting old friends and new. It really is a tremendous achievment to have kept a weekly session session going for ten months a year, for thirty years. But the real triumph has been the impact which that consistency and standard (of listening and of singing) has had on the singing tradition throughout Ireland. Long may it continue.
