28 Feb 09 - 04:59 PM (#2578084) Subject: BS: Accountability-Marching Orders? 3/2009 From: katlaughing As Maggie noted in the new decluttering thread, we've been at this awhile. So...in a look-where-we've-been kind of vein, here's how I started the thread for March 2008: WELCOME TO THE THIRD MONTH!! Please post your fitness/letting go of weight goals, as you meet them by the day/week/monthly. Also, feel free to post your goals in your first posting. Encouragement/chatting is okay, as long as it is kept to a minimum. I will delete any extra stuff. Also, at the end of the month, I will delete all and we will start over. (I had cleaned up the old thread and started it over, last night, but cannot find it, so this is an entirely brand-new, shiny thread!) Have fun and good luck! Feel free to make suggestions! ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Obviously we've done a bit more chatting, but I don't think we've been too excessive about it and I think it has been helpful. Please let me know what you think. Thanks! As Maggie said in her thread, "March On!" kat |
01 Mar 09 - 09:30 AM (#2578511) Subject: RE: BS: Accountability-Marching Orders? 3/2009 From: Catherine Jayne 1st of March and a new exercise class tried today! I did a 4 mile walk, an hours body balance class which is a mix of thai chi, yoga and pilates and it's great! Step aerobics followed for an hour. I feel great! |
01 Mar 09 - 04:57 PM (#2578767) Subject: RE: BS: Accountability-Marching Orders? 3/2009 From: mouldy Well I have made the Lent resolution to stick hard to my points allowance. Due to my current bad back my doctor has banned me from any "proper" exercise classes for the time being, although I shall be at my Tai Chi class this week as usual... now all I need to do is practise it more at home! It's weigh-in tomorrow again, and I HAVE at least lost my first half stone, since I began in October. The problem I have is that for most of my life I was either skinny, or at least within weight range. Then the "m" word happened a few years ago, and so I am in a constant battle with my lack of hormones. The only thing that seems thinner is my hair! Andrea |
01 Mar 09 - 05:17 PM (#2578792) Subject: RE: BS: Accountability-Marching Orders? 3/2009 From: Liz the Squeak Another 30 mins on the WiiFit - I'm starting to like this... :D I haven't noticed any great weight changes but my frozen shoulder is improving, having been getting progressively more painful again over the last 6-8 months. LTS |
01 Mar 09 - 06:55 PM (#2578864) Subject: RE: BS: Accountability-Marching Orders? 3/2009 From: katlaughing Even a little bit of tai chi at home ought to help your back, Andrea, as long as you remember to move slowly and take deep breaths. For years I was on prescriptions meds for what they said was arthritis in my shoulders and back. Now, they think it was poor circulation because of the heart valve. Anyway, I haven't had to take any prescription pain meds in a couple of years now as I have been working with the qi gong. It really helps! Good luck and be kind to yourself. You, too, Liz! We spent about 2.5 hours up in the hills, today, walking around my ex-husband's property. It was rugged with a very slight grade, so I figured, between sits, I did about 90 minutes of good walking/hiking and my feet do NOT hurt! And, I didn't get out of breath, once, so I know I have recovered a lot of the breathing capacity the pneumonia took away 1.5 years ago. |

03 Mar 09 - 04:04 AM (#2580054) Subject: RE: BS: Accountability-Marching Orders? 3/2009 From: mouldy Lugged the ivy into the trailer. All other activity mental, I'm afraid. Been really strict over points, but no shift in either direction last night at the weigh in. Could be worse. People say I look like I've lost weight, but that's because it's all dropped off my face, and that was saggy enough before I started! Tai Chi this morning. Andrea x |
03 Mar 09 - 07:04 AM (#2580130) Subject: RE: BS: Accountability-Marching Orders? 3/2009 From: LilyFestre Andrea, If you are following the WW points system, please be sure that you are eating your daily total...restricting points will do the opposite of what you want. Are you using any of the 35 Flex points? Leaders here encourage the use of them. As for me, I'll stick with the Core program...or what they now call the Filling Foods. I hate counting points. ARG. Give me good, solid nutrition anyday (not that points can't be solid nutrition...but filling foods ALWAYS are). Tai Chi? I'd love to do more of that...did some at a yoga retreat this summer early, early in the morning....5:30ish am, standing outside overlooking a lake as the sun came up...it was beautiful....the sun, the movements, all of it! Michelle |
03 Mar 09 - 07:22 AM (#2580142) Subject: RE: BS: Accountability-Marching Orders? 3/2009 From: GUEST,LTS pretending to work Andrea, that's the beauty of Slimming World. You're allowed all sorts of filling stuff - pasta, noodles, rice and potatoes, unlimited on certain days (Red or Green, I can't remember which, but you get to choose) and allowed all days. My group leader is stunned that I managed to lose 1/2lb after a weekend where my points topped 60+ three days running! My new trousers which were a tad snug, are now comfortable, despite the scales telling me I've not lost anything recently... I'm still having trouble with that 15st barrier... LTS |
03 Mar 09 - 04:00 PM (#2580530) Subject: RE: BS: Accountability-Marching Orders? 3/2009 From: mouldy Weight Watchers has just launched the Discover plan, which is a combination of aspects of the points and core systems. It concentrates on the use of low point "filling foods" to control snacking urges and keep you feeling satisfied for longer. My daughter says I'll probably see the benefit of being very good by next week, as she found that when she used to do the points plan herself. I'll definitely be over my points today as I had a full fat cheese and beans potato for lunch at a Spudulike this afternoon, and I got a helping of pasta down my neck this evening! Andrea |
03 Mar 09 - 07:03 PM (#2580653) Subject: RE: BS: Accountability-Marching Orders? 3/2009 From: Liz the Squeak Another 30 mins WiiFit and 30 mins walking... knew it was a mistake to put my sandals on.. it's been piddling down most of the afternoon and all evening. LTS |
03 Mar 09 - 07:53 PM (#2580691) Subject: RE: BS: Accountability-Marching Orders? 3/2009 From: LilyFestre Andrea, Are you in the US? The new WW program here is called Momentum and yeah, it's pretty much more of the same with some minor adjustments. If you count points, you still will with the focus on filling foods. If you did Core before (as I was when they switched), it's still Core with a different name. They started everybody out counting points until week 6 and then introduced the Filling Foods concept used in points but with a core focus...if you do WW, you know what I mean!!! Anyway, your daughter is most likely right...sometimes the bod needs a week to catch up to your fabulous self!!! Rock on! Michelle |
03 Mar 09 - 07:55 PM (#2580693) Subject: RE: BS: Accountability-Marching Orders? 3/2009 From: katlaughing Walking and pruning the rose bush and small trees today. Andrea, I went over my points big time, last week, and lost over two pounds. (For that matter, I've been going over them, slightly, since Christmas and have lost consistently. I am glad to get back on track with them, now, though.) WW was telling me to slow down the loss! I always use all of my points AND bonus points. I find it very easy to do through the online program. It's $16.95 per month and I don't have to go to any meetings which is what kept me from joining years ago. Stacking all of that ivy is more work than you realise, I'll bet! Be nice to yourself, darlin'!:-) |
04 Mar 09 - 02:30 AM (#2580855) Subject: RE: BS: Accountability-Marching Orders? 3/2009 From: Liz the Squeak SW has a food diary (which I guess other plans have too) and it's stunning if you keep it accurately... being an inveterate picker, especially at work, it was difficult at first to note every single thing that I ate or drank, but it made me realise just how often I did pick and nibble. Now I pick and nibble on fruit (there are some amazing black cherries in Tesco's at the moment... delish!) and it's made a big difference. Had a measure this morning. 2 inches off the chest, an inch off the waist, 2 inches off the hips compared with last August. Someone who hasn't seen me for a few months commented on how much thinner I looked - must be because I only have 2 chins now instead of 3! Explains why my trousers keep slipping down! LTS |
04 Mar 09 - 03:45 AM (#2580873) Subject: RE: BS: Accountability-Marching Orders? 3/2009 From: mouldy I'm off to New Zealand again next week, for nearly a month, and I really love the walk into Wellington from my son's home, through part of the botanical gardens. It takes about 40 minutes, and a good portion of it is downhill, but it's good for getting a brisk pace up, and the air's beautifully clear. Keeping the diary (aka tracker) is very scary at times, when you have been to the pub for a session, only had one half pint of beer, and only two sandwich triangles from the free food. You then realise you have stuffed around 8 points down your neck that, had you had a whisky instead, and no sandwich, would have reduced to less than 2! So I am turning into a whisky drinker when I go out, and have told the landlady I am not commenting adversely on her sarnies by not eating them. She thinks it's hilarious! Andrea |

05 Mar 09 - 11:14 AM (#2581802) Subject: RE: BS: Accountability-Marching Orders? 3/2009 From: GUEST,MAG at work I use the hot tub when I am at the Y; it seems to do as much good as physical therapy, $80 a pop, and that is way more than my Y membership. I'm hoping the weight loss will help with arthritis and the unhappy tendon in my right shoulder. Still haven't found the missing size 18's -- I know I did not give them away; possibly the folks who helped me out during knee surgery did. |
05 Mar 09 - 11:19 PM (#2582310) Subject: RE: BS: Accountability-Marching Orders? 3/2009 From: katlaughing 30 minutes of bending, lifting, shoving, putting stuff away:-) 35 minutes of walking and pushing a grocery cart. I always try to take it at a good pace so I feel I've really worked some muscles. We have a list which I take, then I go round getting stuff while Rog wanders and gets stuff he forgot to put on the list. It looks like a totally random insane way to shop, but it works really well for us. I used to have high cheekbones. My face is starting to cave in in those little hollows which have been filled out, now that the weight is dropping off. I love seeing those hollows, again. I've also noticed a few other "cave-ins." |
06 Mar 09 - 03:44 AM (#2582365) Subject: RE: BS: Accountability-Marching Orders? 3/2009 From: Liz the Squeak Kat, it's those little things that really make the difference. Just being able to wear a coveted necklace last year, made me realise that I wasn't fighting a losing battle. Now for me, it's noticing that my pants are creeping south but the elastic is still intact... Last night I got my WiiFit age down to 29! Mind you, if you'd seen me trying to get out of the backseat of a 2 door Mini Cooper last Wednesday, you'd've thought differently! (Think 'Italian Job' - that's the car!) LTS |
06 Mar 09 - 07:53 AM (#2582493) Subject: RE: BS: Accountability-Marching Orders? 3/2009 From: Catherine Jayne Wednesday was an hours playing with Harry at playgroup...fantastic and quite exhausting. Then a 4 mile walk pushing the double buggy plus twins, my friend did the same walk pushing Harry's buggy. Thursday was a 3 mile walk with double buggy and shopping and toddler on buggy board, I can really feel my arms! Got a weekend of exercise classes and I can't wait! Great news about your trousers Liz! Perhaps it's time you should be making some more....or even better..treat yourself to some! You do look great. |

I've got a couple here that I'm going to have to sell because they're too big although I have been promised a new one. That kid is good for me. We had another few hours today as he helped clean house, etc. Lots of bending, lifting, walking, and tossing a baseball for him to hit. I even took a few swings myself and hit it each time! |
08 Mar 09 - 03:15 AM (#2583690) Subject: RE: BS: Accountability-Marching Orders? 3/2009 From: Liz the Squeak Ah, but Kat, if he was around ALL the time, pretty soon, you'd slide into the habit of 'we can do that tomorrow, we've plenty of time'... and you'd never do anything. Having a finite time together, means you make the most of what you have and you use each minute to the full. More WiiFit yoga I think for today... I'm a bit stiff after all that crawling around in the loft and building flatpack shelves. LTS |

08 Mar 09 - 01:57 PM (#2583957) Subject: RE: BS: Accountability-Marching Orders? 3/2009 From: MAG Yesterday I was majorly antsy at work, so late in the afternoon I just went out and patrolled the floor, which I am supposed to do anyway, but this time for over half an hour. My legs feel like they have had a workout. The boss restructured all out jobs to cover one retiree who is not going to be replaced. This is worrisome because she created a new classification taking the person I have seniority over(who is a major suck-up the boss likes better) so I have to worry all year again that next year she will cut my job. We have had conflicts for over a year, going all the way to the personnel office, who slapped her down. Life is a bitch, and then you die. I almost look forward to getting laid off, except for the health insurance. |

I will hopefully lose that this morning before I set off for Heathrow. The back's a bit stiff, but I managed to lug the bag downstairs yesterday. I've got to get dressed very shortly and change my bedding for when I fall into bed on my return. My son has now announced he WILL actually meet me at the airport, "but text me when you are by the baggage claim because I don't want them to charge me for parking" - cheapskate! Weigh-in tomorrow morning...I hope I did enough exercise to counteract the few points I went over. My ex is really into keeping fit and has told me he will help me in anyway he can to get back in shape and keep up with letting go of the weight. It's nice to have the support. My Rog just doesn't have the time or energy to do much except say, "Yes! Good for you!" when I tell him what I've lost. (I cannot wait for him to be able to retire!) I think he's relieved there is someone else to help out. My ex is also going to plant some trees for us. Good thing the two of them get along so well.:-) |

I climbed a bunch of stairs, and I walked back to the truck. But this is small potatoes. The big exercise will come up as soon as the weather finally clears and I can start digging up beds in the garden. That, along with mowing, are how I lose weight. SRS |

15 Mar 09 - 10:32 PM (#2589765) Subject: RE: BS: Accountability-Marching Orders? 3/2009 From: MAG Ate too much pasta at lunch, paid the price in blood sugar, and feel like a three toed sloth. A brisk walk would help, but it's rainy, very windy, and nasty out. |
16 Mar 09 - 06:00 PM (#2590502) Subject: RE: BS: Accountability-Marching Orders? 3/2009 From: MAG I can't let this thread drop off. I need to too much. No workout today; sore back from bending over too much yesterday. AND 196 on the scale (up 1 - 4 pounds). ?Too much pasta yesterday? Not enough workouts? Kinda big for a normal (Norman) fluctuation. Argh! |
16 Mar 09 - 06:10 PM (#2590517) Subject: RE: BS: Accountability-Marching Orders? 3/2009 From: Catherine Jayne I only did a 1 mile walk today but I was pushing the twins and carrying Harry in the ruc sac carrier, he weighs about 12.5kg so it can be a bit of a work out on the olde legs. Had chocolate birthday cake today which tasted SO good but I'll have to work it off in tomorrows exercise class! |
16 Mar 09 - 11:54 PM (#2590707) Subject: RE: BS: Accountability-Marching Orders? 3/2009 From: katlaughing MAG, are you only weighing once per week? There can be so much fluctuations throughout the week. I go up and down and have found it is much better, mentally, if I stick to the only once per week. I also have to watch NOT rewarding myself when I've had a good loss. I keep going over my weekly points by a few, but still lose. Though maybe not this week; we'll see on Wednesday. Walking about ten minutes today. I have a very sore toe, but it's getting better.:-) |
17 Mar 09 - 03:28 AM (#2590762) Subject: RE: BS: Accountability-Marching Orders? 3/2009 From: Liz the Squeak Been a slug since Saturday's route march... think I'm heading for a couple of sickie days... got that nasty achey, bloaty, queasy feeling and I'm in Kendall mode... never trust a fart. Hopefully the route march will have helped burn off what I ate Saturday night.. I do like Tapas but it's not for the vegetarian or fat-free dieter! LTS |
17 Mar 09 - 10:23 AM (#2590997) Subject: RE: BS: Accountability-Marching Orders? 3/2009 From: Catherine Jayne I'ive walked to town and back today to pick up some supplies....about 3 miles, twins in buggy and Harry in rucsac carrier. Got my exercise class tonight too |
17 Mar 09 - 10:59 AM (#2591022) Subject: RE: BS: Accountability-Marching Orders? 3/2009 From: MAG I have been weighing only once a week, Kat, on WEdnesday; yesterday I did slup and weigh. Now I'm worried. |
17 Mar 09 - 11:13 AM (#2591033) Subject: RE: BS: Accountability-Marching Orders? 3/2009 From: katlaughing Ah, no use in worrying, MAG, you will get back on track. It's probably just a small plateau or some such. I have not stuck to my points this week and feel as though I've gained a pound or two. Only I can do is vow to be more careful and give thanks that it is so!:-) Take care of yourself and take each day as it comes, brand-new and open to all possibilities. |
17 Mar 09 - 02:01 PM (#2591180) Subject: RE: BS: Accountability-Marching Orders? 3/2009 From: maeve All I've managed today is to re-teach my left hand index finger, both how to type some and to play "Go Tell Aunt Rhody" on my oldest dulcimer. 17 Mar 09 - 06:05 PM (#2591368) Subject: RE: BS: Accountability-Marching Orders? 3/2009 From: maeve I did also supervise the day's springtime boiling of the maple sap. Does any of that count for anything other than keeping me sane? maeve |

I've been slogging away since September (this time) and have finally lost a stone. I know its not rocket science...move more eat less......by why is it so hard? However weather is improved and i am walking to work. It takes about 30 mins, today it took 20mins cos i was frog marched by a pensioner!!!!!!! She was just going her normal pace..... |

19 Mar 09 - 08:10 AM (#2592465) Subject: RE: BS: Accountability-Marching Orders? 3/2009 From: Liz the Squeak Maeve - how about getting one of those elastic or velcro luggage straps and getting TL to attach the torch to your cast in the manner of the aforementioned 'Swiss Army Multi-tool-cast'? Would save your hands cramping... Despite the excercise and other stuff, have only managed to lose a pound this week. Still stuck at that 15st plateau. Maybe I should eat what I ate on Monday every day... except I can't remember what I ate on Monday. LTS |
19 Mar 09 - 08:22 AM (#2592472) Subject: RE: BS: Accountability-Marching Orders? 3/2009 From: maeve There's a picture, Liz- but I have to use my fingers when I can or lose the strength and flexibility they have now. My hand cramps because of the constriction of the cast, but I am still supposed to use my fingers. As soon as I can apply some pressure I have the doctor's blessing to start gentle scales on the piano as well as the the dulcimer therapy and (today I hope) whistle practice. I hope you are feeling better today. maeve |

20 Mar 09 - 11:50 AM (#2593393) Subject: RE: BS: Accountability-Marching Orders? 3/2009 From: Stilly River Sage After eating a bunch of snickerdoodles earlier in the week I need to make sure I get back to exercise so I can still fit in my jeans. To this end, I dug up the yard yesterday. Pulled out thistles in one area, then dug beds to plant veggies in one spot and irises in another. They were left over from last fall and I don't want to lose them. The grass I dug out went into the compost, that I also turned over. I have to dig another spot for a last box of rhizomes. "Manual labor" my doctor calls this, it doesn't elevate the heart rate. But it gives the back and the butt a good workout. SRS |
21 Mar 09 - 04:15 AM (#2593882) Subject: RE: BS: Accountability-Marching Orders? 3/2009 From: Liz the Squeak I am insanely jealous of my mate Ian... he got an allotment last October and is busy digging it over for the first time. The dodgy tum and extra "step classes" have not resulted in dramatic weight loss, but my knickers do keep creeping southwards. Maybe it's time to put away the 'Bridget Joneses' and find my half-way decent ones again... LTS |
21 Mar 09 - 12:50 PM (#2594057) Subject: RE: BS: Accountability-Marching Orders? 3/2009 From: Catherine Jayne Did my what is usual 4 mile walk this morning and an hours LBT class, I was going to to the body pump class after but my knee is a bit sore so decided a weights class is probably not the best thing to do. Took Harry to the park this afternoon, it was exhausting just watching him run around. I'm having a day off exercise tomorrow for mothers day and indulge in chocolate and good food at a nice restaurant! |

Next I have scanned in the backside of the two-sided stretches sheet recommended years ago and which I know I need to do. I have been doing a couple of them, but need to add to them. |

27 Mar 09 - 11:57 AM (#2598629) Subject: RE: BS: Accountability-Marching Orders? 3/2009 From: Liz the Squeak Been a slow week on the WiiFit, been too tired to manage it every night and have been trying to finish some sewing for Limpit's birthday... missed it by a few hours. Didn't make it to the weigh-in either, so have eaten large amounts of chocolate instead. HOWEVER - three people have made comments about my weight loss, so obviously the combination of losing a stone and working on the Wii to tighten up what there is left, is working... I may not be any lighter in body, but my spirit is up there with the Space Station! LTS |
