The Average American

A recent study conducted by Harvard University found that the average
American walks about 900 miles a year.

Another study by the American Medical Association found that Americans
drink, on average, 22 gallons of alcohol a year.

This means, on average, Americans get about 41 miles to the gallon.

Kind of makes you proud to be an American.

Hmmm, a whole new bag of comparisons.
How many miles per gallon of coffee? And compare with miles per liter of tea in England.

Is that gallons of alcohol (ie the alcohol component of all alcoholic drinks), or gallons of drinks containing alcohol?

Yes, the gallons do differ north and south of the border. Still (no pun itended and perhaps none taken), it's impressive.
