Obit: Ernest Ashworth 2 March 2009

Just saw a notice that Ernest Ashworth, had died at age 80. His big number one hit was "Talk Back Trembling Lips" back in the 1960s. One other song that made the top 10 was "I Take The Chance". There were also other top 10 songs.

I had a chance to see Ernie back in the 1970s when he was on the Bonnie Lou and Buster show in Pigeon Forge, Tennessee. His star had begun to fade at the time but he was still wearing his trademark "Lip" suit.

Farewell Ernest and thanks for the memories.

Pigeon Forge--having been through that town many times on my way to and from work in the National Park (Smoky Mtn) conjures up a memory of non-stop country music venues all through town. It may not have been the high life of performing around the country or lots of albums, but it would have been steady work with fans coming to him. I hope he enjoyed his time there.

There some good info on him on wiki, including this:

Ashworth remained active as a recording artist until his death in 2009, making appearances at the Grand Ole Opry and spending much of his time tending to the affairs of his radio stations in Ardmore and Gallatin, Tennessee.

That's the way to do it...keep going until you get "called."

RIP
