We just acquired Jim Brannigan's new CD. It's titled The Back Velvet Band, and it's winner.
He has recorded some of my old favorites, and he did them justice.Every song was done just right.

I listened to the on-line version and thought it was terrific. I'm looking forward to getting my hands on the actual CD for the complete experience (it's probably waiting for me in Westlock at the moment - in which case, I'll get it on Saturday).

It is Megan - and it is a great CD. I've already got one song off of it that I am going to have to learn - The Spinning Wheel. Jim sings it so beautifully.

There are lots of old favourites on it as well. This album is a real treat.

Years ago I stumbled on a couple of Jim Brannigan's recordings on a site called Cantaria. I listened to those recordings over and over - Carrickfergus was one of them. Right away I realized that Jim has a way of getting a song across that is extraordinary - he's gifted. He's got a quality that isn't just the voice, or the delivery, but a combination of those things along with something else that I can only term inspiration - a knack for bringing out the essence of the song.   I've listened to Black Velvet Band on-line. Even the old chestnuts become new again and make me realize why everybody liked them so much.
